Junia Guesthouse Bukit Lawang

We enjoyed so much this family run guesthouse, where they will all do their best for you to enjoy your stay. All family and staff members will make you feel at home. The place is lovely, amongst the nicest we saw in Bukit Lawang, on the other side of the river (with respect to the main car road). Expect a 5-10mn walk + a hanging footbridge. If your luggage is heavy, you can have porters for a fee. We booked the superior bungalow, and were not disappointed, clean, with AC (not strong but enough), hot water, and wifi also in the bungalow. That really helps after a tiring trek. They have a restaurant for all meals, with good food. We asked them to arrange our pickup from Medan airport, transportation to Toba, and back to Medan: all well organized, no hassle. We also went on the one-day trek with them. It is November, so wet season, we experienced good sunny weather in the morning (good for the trek), then rain around late afternoon and/or evening. They got a great guide for us, prepared our picnic lunch, and we enjoyed a lot our day in the forest. It is not an easy walk, steep climbing up and down, hot and humid weather, can be muddy/slippery. But if you have no issue at walking, it is not hard neither, you don't need to be a sportsman. And we got rewarded by the orangutans, that are the main goal of the trip, but also gibbons and langurs. Wonderful memories. A truly wonderful experience, we were happy to rely on Junia's team.

Junia guesthouse is in a perfect location in Bukit Lawang. The rooms at the guesthouse are clean and comfortable and the gardens are beautiful. The staff could not have been more welcoming or more helpful and the jungle trek with Andre was amazing. He is so knowledgeable and passionate about the environment and was friendly and patient with us. We had an amazing time here. Highly recommended.

Great place everything was just perfect, rooms are beautiful, service is great. When we arrived we had cold welcoming drink. Room was clean and bathroom looked just incredible with this unique big rock wall inside. There is outside garden and place to order food. Breakfast was very good, the owner Antonio was very helpful with giving advices. Next day we took jungle trekking from this guesthouse,. First we were thinking that it will be very commercial, but not. Our guide Wisnu, we really recommend him, was very knowledgeable and adjusted trip to us. Helped us to see the best spots, we saw orangutans, Thomas monkeys, two types of gibbons white and black in first two hours. Beside that lizards and weird insects. Guide prepared for us great food and lunch during trip. We had camp close to the river and next day amazing trip to the waterfall and rafting back to the town after lunch. When we checked out the owner gave us two cold water bottles for the road and transported us to bus station to Medan. Really recommend this place for stay, jungle track and food!!!

Me and my friend arrived in Bukit Lawang on Monday 3rd of July in the evening. We loved the place immediately and the people were very friendly and welcoming. We had a drink and ate some good food there. On Tuesday we started our jungle trekking with our guide Roy. We did a 2-day tour and it was beyond AMAZING!! We saw around 20 orangutan and many other monkeys and other animals (possum, turtle, snakes, peacock, toekan, …). Our guide Roy was a lot of fun and gave us a lot of interesting insights of the jungle. He speaks very good English, is very helpful (for example he helped us carrying our backpack), made sure we ate enough food (delicious!!) and has a lot of knowledge. When we arrived at the camp down the river, he was more than happy to show us a waterfall which was a 30min walk. We had so much fun! Afterwards we had dinner together, played some games and he showed us some magic tricks. After the jungle trek, we ate again at Junias (very good food!) and had the best evening together with Roy, another employee (I forgot his name :( ), and some other guests. They played guitar and we sang the whole night together. It was so much fun! The same night I had an allergic reaction and they helped me so much to stop the itching. They made something to put on my skin, and I felt so much better afterwards. These people here are so sweet and caring, I never experienced such an amazing team. On Thursday we went via Junias to Tankahan to wash the elephants which was also a cool experience! First I was a bit sceptical if it would be ethical, but the ranger gave us good explanation about their purpose and they take good care of the elephants. We were really sad to leave this beautiful place and lovely people, and wish to come back! So if you are doubting to book or not, JUST BOOK!! You will not regret it, I guarantee 😊. Oh, and we could also do our laundry here which was very convenient as well.

De jungletocht was echt geweldig, de mensen zijn zo aardig en gezellig. Het verblijf is top!! echt een 10! Het eten is super lekker en het is een en al gezelligheid en prachtigheid. Er wordt onwijs goed voor je gezorgd tijdens de trekking. Vers fruit en lekker eten.

Wir hatten das 2/1 Dschungeltrekking gebucht und es war eine phantastische Erfahrung. Die Abholung am Flughafen Medan hat durch das Guesthouse reibungslos geklappt und wir wurden herzlich empfangen. Hervorheben möchte ich unseren Guide André, super Nett und super kompetent hat er uns die beiden Tage durch den Dschungel geführt. Mr. Don hat für uns gekocht und das Essen war immer sehr gut und reichlich. Wir haben sehr viele Tiere gesehen und insgesamt 9 Orang Utans😁. Es war einfach wunderbar , wir konnten uns sehr viel Zeit zum beobachten nehmen. Das Zimmer im Junia Resort war wie beschrieben, die ganze Anlage ist sauber und sehr liebevoll angelegt. Hier gibt es alles zu günstigen Preisen direkt vor Ort. Und hat es an nichts gefehlt. Essen sehr lecker und das Team war sehr bemüht uns einen tollen Aufenthalt zu bescheren. Einzig die Klimaanlage hat nicht so gut funktioniert. Vielleicht könnte man Moskitonetze an den Fenstern anbringen, dann könnte man nachts lüften. Wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen, insbesondere wegen André.
