Château d'Hodebert

This was by far the most beutiful holiday in a lovely castle in the heart of the Loire Valley. Big fantastic rooms, clean, cozy, welcoming! The breakfast was so good! Our host, Ivana did everything to make us feel comfortable. We will come back and will highly recommend Chateau Hodebert.

Château d’Hodebert is a well kept secret for those who appreciate an intimate setting for their stay in the Loire Valley. Three well furnished, comfortable, spacious, up to standard rooms are waiting for you in a very much lived in country house of a young family. The service provided is impeccable and très à la Française. You start the day with a breakfast in the stylish salle à manger, which you share with, for example, a famous American photographer of flowers, living in the Provence, and her family, or a mother and daughter from Martha’s Vineyard, or a Swedish couple. In the mean time you have your croissants, spelt bread, confitures, regional cheeses, yoghurt, various sorts of tea, coffee and home made smoothies. During summer you can enjoy the swimming pool which is located near the écuries and an impeccably maintained French ‘parterre’, or read a book and have a glass of wine at the open fire in the salon, or try your skills in the billiard room. Hodebert exudes a lifestyle you associate with well being and France at its best. From Hodebert all châteaux and historic towns are within reasonable distance (Le Lude, Ussé, Chenonceau, Azay-le-Rideau, Villandry, Cheverny, Chambord). Many excellent restaurants are within 30 minutes drive from Hodebert. All you need to do is giving a call to the châtelaine Ivana de la Bouillerie. In perfect English, or French if you prefer, she will answer you and book your stay.

Château D’Hodebert was our favourite place to stay when travelling in France. First of all it is absolutely brimming with French charm and beauty. The hostess Ivana is extremely warm and welcoming and full of information about the history and renovation of the chateau as well as travelling tips for visiting Chateau in the area. Because the chateau is in a beautiful country setting, you need to be prepared to drive into the closest small town (10-15 min) or to drive to Tours (about 1 hour) for dinner and supplies. However it is perfectly situated for visiting château in the area. Ivana makes a beautiful breakfast with everything organic and homemade. Ivana is a discreet hostess who endeavours to make her guests feel at home. The rooms are very spacious with great privacy. We can’t wait to visit Chateau D’Hodebert again!

We had a great stay at this chateau, it is the second time we have chosen this beautiful location and we are sure it wont be the last. The attention to detail, the character of the facility, everything is excellent. One of the best chateaux we have stayed in France. The only thing you need to be aware is that you need to plan for lunch/dinner, as I am not sure the kitchen facilities are open to the guests. It would be great if it was possible because we would have loved to have dinner in the garden.

Mijn zusje en ik kwamen aan via een schitterende lange oprijlaan met aan weerszijden prachtige oude bomen. Aan het eind ervan zwaaide een statig hek voor ons open en stond de eigenaresse klaar om ons te verwelkomen. We voelden ons onmiddellijk thuis, maar dan in een heel andere wereld. Een wereld vol vriendelijkheid, hartelijkheid, zorgzaamheid, pracht, finesse, persoonlijke aandacht en belangstelling. Werkelijk alles en iedereen straalt warmte en gezelligheid uit in dit kasteel. Op de inrichting raak je niet uitgekeken. We haalden ons hart op aan kunst, antiek en onnoemelijk veel schitterende details. In de kamers voor algemeen gebruik kom je heerlijk tot rust en geniet je van al het moois om je heen. En onze slaapkamer deed daar niet voor onder. Deze had dezelfde sfeer en uitstraling als die van de rest van het kasteel. De badkamer was voorzien van biologische artikelen en heerlijke dikke handdoeken en we sliepen elke nacht als een blok in slaap in de lekkere, comfortabele bedden. We mochten gebruikmaken van allerlei vertrekken waaronder twee schitterende salons, een biljartkamer en de prachtige eetkamer. In deze eetkamer begonnen we onze dagen met een zeer uitgebreid ontbijt met zelfgebakken speltbrood, croissantjes, verse jus d’orange, zelfgemaakte jams en yoghurt, Franse kazen, fruit uit de tuin en nog veel meer. Te veel om op te noemen. Op tafel stonden elke dag weer verse bloemen uit de tuin. Kortom, zo zou je elke dag wel willen starten! En dan heb ik het nog niet eens gehad over het landgoed om het kasteel heen. Hier hebben we heerlijk gewandeld, de ezeltjes geaaid en allerlei leuke en spannende dingen ontdekt, zelfs grotten! Het zwembad ligt heerlijk beschut, er zijn lekkere ligbedden en er is een overkapping voor als je even uit de zon wilt. Ik denk dat je er ook als het regent heerlijk kunt zitten. Kasteelvrouwe/eigenaresse Ivana is een topgastvrouw! Ze heeft echt indruk op ons gemaakt en voelde voor ons bijna als een lieve vriendin. Daar wil ik nog wel de kanttekening bij maken dat ze volstrekt niet opdringerig is. Ze gaf ons allerlei tips voor leuke uitstapjes en in het kasteel is ook veel toeristische informatie voorhanden. Ik denk dat ik nog wel even door zou kunnen schrijven over onze ervaringen in en om Chateau d’Hodebert, maar ik laat het hierbij. Ivana, dank voor alles!

Alles was meer dan fantastisch en het kasteel is echt uniek! Ivana is hartverwarmend en bereid met alles te helpen of tips te geven. Het Chateau straalt veel liefde en harmonie uit. De sfeer is onbeschrijflijk mooi en verfijnd. Er valt heel veel te bekijken; allerlei mooie, interessante,en/ of historische objecten. Je kunt gebruik maken van de vele boeken die er zijn. Ook liggen er allerlei folders klaar over de interessante plekken in de omgeving. Er staat ook een biljarttafel in een van de verscheidene, beeldschone salons. Iedere morgen serveert Ivana zelf gebakken, heerlijk speltbrood met fruit uit de tuin. Overal kleine boeketjes met verscheidene vers geplukte bloemen uit de tuin. De familie is constant bezig met duurzaamheid voor onze planeet. Applaus!
