Every year my sister and I book a week's skiing holiday at a 5 star hotel, and one of the things we look forward to is having varied and delicious 4 course evening meals included in half board. The food here was extremely disappointing. The menu is the same EVERY DAY except for the chef's special and the soup, and if you don't like the special (included in half board) then most of the other choices on the menu are charged extra! You even have to pay if you want cheese instead of dessert. I've NEVER experienced this in a "5 star" hotel before. Additionally, the choice at breakfast is extremely limited and stocked low. The boot room is poorly designed with not enough space to sit down without constantly having to move to let people pass. The exit from the boot room is via the outdoor terrace, where you have to manoeuvre past all the tables and chairs. Not ideal! Several times the cleaners came to clean the room just as we got back from skiing late in the afternoon, then would come back to do turndown when we were getting ready for dinner. This is a lovely hotel, but it's not 5 star. On a positive note, it's in an excellent location and we had a lovely, sunny balcony overlooking the piste. The staff are very warm and friendly and try hard to improve the experience - for example, when we complained about the food, the chef made us a special starter. The spa area is also very good with a small, warm pool with jets and a hot, spacious steam room. I recommend the hotel as a 4 star, not 5 star, but do not choose half board. There are plenty of places with good food nearby to have dinner instead.
