Long post for The Residence Plein Sud of the hotel group, Village Montana Group in Val Thorens. I’m typing this post as I remember bits, so apologies if it doesn’t seem to be in order! We travelled 12th January 2024 for a week as a family of four - 2 adults and 2 young children - with TUI Crystal Ski. This being our first family ski holiday! We booked the two bed apartment, it was wonderful and spacious, the hotel appeared to be for us, in a great location. From having read the reviews prior to booking, we understood that the ski out was not for complete beginners, this was a steep blue run. My husband is an experienced skier but myself and children had never stepped into skis so we did have ski lessons at our local UK dry slope centre over the course of several months, also booked private lessons during the holiday with a great ski instructor - Nicola Piva, lessons can be booked through his web site. Following lesson day one my children were able to ski out and down to the main resort centre, I on the other hand carried my skis and walked the slope towards the main area which took me no longer than 5 minutes. I wasn’t the only person doing this!! However, I finally found my confidence and managed to ski the blue slope on return to the hotel on the last day!! Otherwise it’s either a steep walk back up to the hotel or you can return by walking up a small path to the side of the Village Montana Premier and walking 5 minutes to the hotel along the road. From the bottom of our ski out slope, you’re only a couple of metres from the first magic carpet (there are 3) and nursery slopes with a huge open space for practicing. Not many green runs as I would like but I wasn’t in the position to complain seeing as I’m a newbie, I grew with confidence and towards the end of our holiday we knew what type of resort to look for going forward - because this holiday won me over!! Great hotel Ski lockers, allocated by room number. No issues. The apartment was wonderful, with a well equipped kitchen that met our needs with a large fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster, espresso machine (buy your own pods), dishwasher, oven and an electric ceramic hob. A small bag of dishwasher tablets, washing liquid, cloth and sponge are provided to get you through first couple of days. A great little supermarket (8 à Huit) is located within a two minute walk from hotel, alternatively there is a SPAR which is a 10-15min walk. The apartment had a powerful heating system, extremely comfy beds. We were based on the ground floor right next to the stairs and lift, we did have some noise but not enough to disturb us too much. It’s true when pple say it’s the best sleep you get after a day of skiing, we were shattered so a little noise didn’t bother us, besides, the hotel guests were not the rowdy type. Adequate TV channels, we mainly chose the radio stations as background noise, option to play DVDs but don’t bother due to country licensing. In all honesty, TV was ha
