Nachelle Homestay

The welcome by Mery is amazing! She will check in with you and tell you all about how to get around in the city and give you recommendations about local food. Really enjoyed her hospitality! Something to note however is that this homestay is located in a pretty busy area. It is quite easy to get around from here, but if you are looking for more nature and quiet time, this may not be your spot.

Me and my wife visited Nachelle Homestay during our honeymoon in Indonesia. We had a wonderful experience. Mary and Abdi welcomed us with open arms in their home. The place was very clean and we had a very good stay. The pizza's Mary makes (everything handmade) are delicious, and you should definitely try it when you stay there. We went on two tours with Abdi. He took us up the Sibayak volcano for sunrise, and even though we had clouds and rain, he knew so much about the plants and the volcano that it was very much worthwhile. He took us to see all over Berastagi and we had great conversations learning about each others culture. We also visited the Sipiso piso waterfall and some ghost towns nearby the Sinabung volcano (strictly off limits for hikers). We went as close as we legally could and with all his knowledge, jokes and conversations he made it truly an experience we will never forget. Mary and Abdi, thanks so much for being part of our trip and honeymoon, you guys improved it so much and we would not have to think twice where we will stay when we visit again!

From the moment we arrived at Nachelle Homestay, Mery and Abdy were perfect hosts, welcoming us into their lovely home. Our room was bright, clean and spacious, with views of the volcanoes and a super comfy bed. We used Abdy as our guide, firstly for our sunrise ascent of Gunung Sibayak. In the middle of the night Mery made us tea, and sent us off with our packed breakfasts, and Abdy. When we arrived at the start of our walk, the night sky was like nothing I have ever seen. Millions of stars and the Milky Way was visible. Abdy led us safely to the sumit of the volcano in time for sunrise, where he took lots of amazing photos of us. After eating our delicious packed breakfast of banana and chocolate pancakes, Abdy then took us into the crater to show and explain the various features of the volcano. We were so impressed by Abdy, that we recruited him again to take us to see Lake Toba and the nearby waterfall. We had a lovely dinner by the lake. The following day we left for the airport in the middle of the night, and not only did Mery arrange our transport, but she also got up in the middle of the night to see us off safely. Abdy and Mery are beautiful people and excellent hosts and guides. If you find yourself in the area and need either, I cannot recommend Nachelle homestay highly enough.

Mery and Abdy’s home is impeccably clean, and it’s just far enough from the main road to be shielded from the noise of traffic. Upon arriving, Mery gave us an incredibly helpful rundown of the area, including recommendations for where to eat and even written words on how to order the local BBQ pork. When we bought fruit at the famous Berastagi market, Mery gave us plates and cutlery to enjoy them on the rooftop – which has a lovely view of the entire area! Abdy is a wonderful guide; he’s extremely knowledgeable and friendly, and takes every opportunity to crack a joke. He took us on a full-day tour of the area, including a sunrise hike up Mt. Sibayak, soaking in a hot spring, walking to a waterfall, learning about the Batak Karo culture, and driving up to a nice viewpoint. These are lovely people, and we can’t recommend them highly enough!

Mery and Abdy were the sweetest hosts! They explained in detail about the sights nearby. Abdy took us up the volcano. In addition, Mery arranged all the transport for us. Even well beyond our departure, she arranged transport for us in Sumatra. Extraordinary service!

We did a hike to Mount Sibayak to see the sunrise. Abdy is a fun guide thats always in for a joke. He is really knowledgeable about the volcanos in the area. The hike itself is not hard and the views are stunning. The visit to the hot springs is a good and relaxing way to end the trip. Would recommend!
