DoubleTree by Hilton Williamsburg

We live about 90 minutes away, and tend to do long weekend trips to Busch Gardens. We typically stay at holiday Inn, and love it. But this stay there were not to 2 rooms available, so choose this place. I probably won’t be doing that again. The staff was down right rude. From the check in experience, to cleaning staff and bartenders. Beds were not as comfortable either. Will say the bathroom was nice, water was great and hot hot which I love. But didn’t feel like the type of hotel for the money. We got a balcony room for us, and a double for our parents and they said that the room was just basic, nothing special.

This is a hotel that I will stay in whenever I come to Williamsburg to visit Busch Gardens, or any of the surrounding Williamsburg attractions. It is clean the staff is friendly and the parking is very easy.

Check in/ out easy and swift. Room nice and clean. Quiet area, nice clean hotel. Food at bar/ drinks good. Service and staff excellent. Would stay again.

The good: It was nice walking into the updated lobby. The host was friendly and had me checked in quickly. I took advantage of his offer to sign me up for the Hilton Honors program as well. Got our room key and off we went. HUGE room; great water pressure; plenty of hot water; reasonably comfortable beds with decent bedding that actually fit. The bad: Pretty much everything else. Room and furnishings showing their age; a little musty; carpet disgusting; walls did little to block any noise from adjacent room or hall; Nice tv except it pulled in no local news channels successfully; we were next to an exit door which was broken – in that it did not close all the way or lock so security was an issue (this has been noted by other reviewers, and clearly not addressed). Overall, the property is simply showing its age, and not in a good way. All this was topped off by a $10 per night parking charge. The ad for the property said ‘self-parking’ and that should have been a red flag for me. Fair enough, most hotels in this price range do not provide valet parking unless it is in a more metropolitan area, nor do they charge a separate fee. Many other properties available in the Williamsburg which are competitively priced – and don’t charge what is essentially a hidden parking fee. This is simply a money grab and a complete showstopper for me. Shame on Hilton. I will not be activating my rewards account, as I won’t be using it going forward.

I love staying at Doubletree i just don’t like not having access to a microwave in your room like most 4-5 star hotels…

The hotel was lackluster. I had reserved a Premium King suite thinking it would have some type of amenities or even a jetted tub. There was nothing special about the room, only a large sitting area with a pull out couch that would have been great if i were traveling with children. The room was on the other side of the building and of the 3 room keys I received, 2 were defective and did not work causing a long, winding walk back and forth from the front desk. I thought I had clicked to add breakfast, but upon checking in it was reported that I did not. There were no free breakfast options. Not even complimentary coffee.

We read the reviews and didn’t hesitate to book a room. The lobby looked updated and nice. We were booked in a room on the second floor. We made our way to the elevators and once we got in them we began to doubt booking at this location. The elevators had an old smell to them and looked completely outdated. We walked to our room and once we walked in my heart sank. I immediately regretted booking here. My 7 year old even made a comment about how old the room looked. The carpet looked like it was from the 90s. The room was from the 90s. Paint was chipped all over, the furniture clearly belonged to the 90s and was also damaged (scratches, dented etc). The bathroom, omg, the bathroom! It reminded me of a motel. Although it appeared clean, the items such as the tissue box, the hair dryer bag etc had rust or stained. The outlets looked beaten up. The bathroom pretty much has never been updated. The floor tiles had cracks. We had a balcony and the balcony door did not lock. This was HUGE for us. We have two kids. Such a security issue. The balcony was filthy! The lighting was almost non existent. The room looked so dingy and dark. This was not what I pictured when I booked this place. In the pictures it looks nice, the rooms look nicely lit but not in person. There was an accent chair that started to look brown, it was blue. The room rates are pricey, plus they charge for parking and breakfast. The staff was very friendly and accommodating but this is not a hotel. This is a motel.

Great place to stay. Very clean, beds are comfortable, staff is very friendly and the cookies are great. There was no cable and only app available was Netflix or you tube. Pool was clean and a decent size. The bathrooms do not have fans in them but are very roomy and have hot water. They have shampoo, conditioners and body wash available in the shower.
