We looked for a cheap alternative to staying in Manchester City Centre for a Saturday night. Was very impressed, the hotel is great value and the staff are really great. Couldn't knock the room. Would come back

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the past ten years, its never been great but it is convenient for business and the hotel has a captive audience, this is the problem they don’t have to excel. This stay was the worst I have ever endured. On arrival I went to my room, after a long day of meetings and traveling, I used the bathroom and notice a strange smell, but after a long day travelling and very tired I chose to overlook it. I discovered in the morning when the shower had steamed up the bathroom, the smell I smelt the evening before, now smelt on men's urinal/ men's toilet. The shower area was filthy with black mold spores all over the flooring in the shower area, and up the glass wall, I had to wear flip flops in the shower, fearful of standing on the mold and contaminating myself with mold spores, paint was peeling from the bathroom door. It is absolutely disgusting that B&B were offering room 202 as accommodation. I made a complaint, which I considered serious to reception when I went to breakfast, as I was only really made aware of the appalling state of the bathroom when I went to use it. I reported it to reception, the lady came to me at breakfast and said they would move me, at no time did any manager or duty manager come and see me or investigate the room in my presence. On my return to the hotel after my meetings in the day, I was given the key to the new room, no one offered to help move, the bedroom that was a disgrace was 202, it hadn't been cleaned at all during the day by housekeeping, the bathroom smelt worse than when I left it in the morning. During the stay I used the bar area and requested a Zero alcohol drink in the bar, but was told they did not stock any ZERO alcohol drinks or beverages, in this day and age I find that quite bizarre . When I asked for crisps with a drink, I was told they have taken them off the Menu, however they went and found a packet for me in a storeroom. The Continental breakfast choice is poor, on both days of my stays the only cold meats were salami, and only 2 slices on display on both days of my stay. There, was a choice of two cheeses, some fruit, and yoghurt, mini bread rolls were hard and stale when opened, inedible, the continental choice for me was very poor. There was plenty of sweet pastries and cake, but who wants sugary things in the morning, when you’re on a business trip, breakfast is an important start to the day. I can only speak about a continental choice of breakfast as I do not eat a cooked breakfast. During my two day stay management made no attempt to see me to apologise or refund the first night of my stay, I was offered a meal in restaurant as compensation which I could not take up and wouldn't have, considering the room cost £140+ a meal in the restaurant is hardly compensation for a room that was absolutely filthy. Had the burger and chips with an apple crumble and ice cream for desert. Not too bad. The burger should really be served on a plate as the grease proof paper flakes off onto the bun which results in you eating grease proof paper. Service was really slow. The taps on the sinks in the toilets are infuriating, like a 1mm gap between the sink and tap outflow so practically impossible to wash your hands. All in all not too bad but room for improvement.
