The Unicorn Hotel Wetherspoon

Checked in very quickly and efficiently by Ryan who made us feel very welcome. No problems with bar or food service on this visit. Only criticism was that the old windows in our room were very dirty on the outside. Some of the window catches didn't close properly especially the metal window frame in bathroom which made the room really draughty.

Very mixed reviews regarding this hotel. Great location and easy to park near by in the Sainsbury Car Park. 24 hrs for £3.00 Check in was a bit slow as you ring a bell and have to wait for a member of the bar staff to come to you. The rooms have everything - much more than expected. Lots of fresh towels, tea, coffee, biscuits etc Nicely decorated and very large rooms. The shower didn't get very hot. Pillows were quite hard. No lift available. Cleaner was lovely and very friendly. Overall the room was good. Although you can hear a lot of noise from the bar below and you can hear people talking in the corridors and doors slamming all the time. Didn't use the bar much as the young girl with brown hair behind the bar was too busy serving regulars to bother with any of our party and the bar manager spent most his time hanging round the front door. We would recommend this hotel. Ripon is a great place to stay.

Went here for a lunch and drink when staying in ripon. Situated right on the corner of the main square in an ideal spot. We both had the fish and chips. The fish were very large and tasty. I had a couple of beers and a large gin which were good and very reasonably priced. Bar was busy and had a good atmosphere. Would definitely return.

Brilliant stay we asked for a room at the back of the hotel which we got absolutely spotless clean room and big will definitely stay again Ripon is a lovely place nice and peaceful some really good pubs and good atmosphere would recommend unicorn for place to stay

We were in room 109 for one night. Room was clean and comfortable enough for the money. The only problem was the arctic breeze blowing in through the old window frames in the bedroom and bathroom. We appreciate that it's an old building but surely something can be done. We were told that more heaters were going to be installed but that seems like an incredible waste of energy and it doesn't address the problem. Parking instructions weren't totally clear but when we eventually parked in Sainsbury's car park, everything was ok. Central location was excellent.

For the price, this is an excellent hotel. Although the hotel is situated on the busy market square, our room at the back was quiet and cosy with a lovely view of the cathedral. The hotel is an old building, so lots of stairs and no lift, so anyone with mobility issues might prefer a room on the first floor. There is a small amount of parking at the back of the hotel. The room price also includes free refills of tea or coffee, just ask for a cup at the bar. The staff were all friendly and helpful, and the food (dinner and breakfast) was good. We enjoyed our stay very much.
