Maitai Rangiroa

This was a very good experience. We had come from their sister hotel in Huahine and the difference was very clear. Whilst the management of the Maitai in Huahine has obviously ignored several years of reviews with the same complaints, the Maitai in Rangiroa has listened. The reception staff were excellent and attentive and the ladies even offered to help with baggage. The food was excellent and the hotel was clean and bright. The rooms are looking a bit tired now - and probably need some updating. But overall we had a lovely stay!

This tiny little resort is very basic at best. Air conditioning worked at half power despite the staff trying to fix it. Phone did not work at all to call front desk or out. Internet was nonexistent even when you got close to the main signal. No beach, stairs to the water but very rocky or a metal ladder of the pier. Everyone leaves by 8:15 am for a tour otherwise there is nothing to do. From all the islands we visited (5) this was the most basic of food despite a good looking menu. Lamb was tough, muscles were chewy….only nice part was the staff.

Highly recommend the Maitai Rangiroa. We had also stayed at the Maitai in Bora Bora 2 years ago and found that a great option also that didn’t cost a small fortune. We were welcomed with a tropical Juice and a lovely lei while we checked in. The grounds are lovely and very well kept. The pool and its surroundings including the bar are beautiful. The room was clean and a good size. We had the 1st 2 nights in a garden bungalow and then the last 2 nights in a waterfront bungalow which was lovely having the view and a little more privacy. We had breakfast included. It’s nothing fancy but great to start the day with as much as you can eat. All the stuff were very friendly and helpful at reception. Most of the restaurant staff were great too. Good location right in the middle of the island with some nice snorkeling out the front and Kayaks to use as you wish. Bikes were available to use too. We used them most nights to bike down to the pass for a sunset drink and to watch the dolphins. Would stay here again if we come back to Rangiroa.

Stayed in Rangiroa prior to catching Windstar cruise in Tahiti (separate review). After flying from US, caught inter-island flight of 50 minutes. Hotel Maitai is a short ride from airport. Much better than a two star, but not a four star either. If you’re looking for plush resort, you’ll need to pick a different island. Rangiroa is quaint tropical island with great snorkeling and scenery. Check out snorkeling location called the “Aquarium”. And make sure to visit Blue Lagoon with its pink sand beach. Bungalows are more than adequate, even better than I expected. Showers had plenty of hot water and air conditioning kept room cool. One knock: WiFi was spotty and slow, so used my ATT International plan to access Internet. Breakfast was included for us. Was fine, nothing special. Lunch and dinner were decent too, but not luxury (I didn’t expect it to be). Food and drinks were pricey…but it is a remote atoll. Would recommend staying here. Loved the relaxed island atmosphere and beautiful water views. Just don’t expect a high-end resort.

Not only is the pool not functional, but the service is just okay. The pool does not work! The breakfast is terrible. However the 4 rooms on the water are decent. Beds okay and AC is nice. I’m sorry but I cannot recommend this place. Unfortunate, as I really wanted it to be a great spot. They seem to exhausted dealing with anything and anyone. 1 star!

Housekeepers knocking on our room at 0815 in the morning trying to do housekeeping. Told them to go away. Two minutes later they came back knocking on our door again ! Very unprofessional behavior. I made a complaint to hotel management but haven't heard back. The hotel is also very dated and in desperate need of a renovation. The restaurant is poor and they lied to us saying that our fish was tuna when it clearly wasn't. The prices are very high whilst the restaurant is under staffed and dated.
