Relais Parco Cavalonga

We recently returned from 2 weeks at Parco Cavalonga; we are a family of 4 and were self-catering, staying in Casa Donnafugata. We had a wonderful holiday and really enjoyed having this lovely Relais as our base. Our villa was very elegant with a basic but well-equipped kitchen, 2 decent bathrooms and a large, airy living area. The air-con was effective so we were cool at night. The furnishings were basic but stylish and charming. All the towels and linen were good quality and replaced each week. We had a lovely terrace giving perfect views of the stunning sunsets each evening. The grounds of the Relais are full of typical Sicilian plants and trees: carobs, figs, prickly pear, bougainvillea, olives etc. This is a very hot, very dry land, so of course it is not all green and lush, but it is fragrant and very mediterranean. We used the large infinity pool that the self-catering villas share; there are plenty of sunbeds and we never had difficulty finding space. We ate breakfast in the hotel on several mornings and very much enjoyed the buffet-style array of local cheese, honey and fruit as well as scrambled egg, toast, meats and always cake! We also enjoyed dinner in the hotel twice - a set-menu is served at 8pm, on the delightful terrace. The choices were all local and well cooked and we would recommend it. All the staff were very helpful and kind; they even ordered and collected a cake for us to celebrate our daughter's 15th birthday - so they very much go the extra mile for their guests. It is true that the villas and pools could probably do with a little TLC before too long, but this hotel (like many in Italy and across Europe) no doubt took a huge financial hit during covid, so they no doubt need a little time to recover. We would thoroughly recommend this as a base for a family holiday.

Posto rilassante e parco molto grande e forse proprio per questo maltenuto, con piscina sporca e lettini obsoleti. Per non parlare della camera superior con patio che dovrebbe essere di pertinenza della camera ma invece è aperto al passaggio di chiunque, gatti compresi! Nota positiva la colazione e la gentilezza del personale.

We hadden best wel hoge verwachtingen van deze accommodatie obv de website en een aantal recensies. Helaas is de beleving voor ons matig gebleken. Ons appartement zouden wij om 14:00 kunnen betreden, maar bij aankomst moesten wij 40 minuten wachten. Qua voorzieningen vielen er al in het begin een aantal dingen tegen, zoals de keuken die geen theedoek/handdoek/vaatdoek had, douche putje verstopt en douche deur uit sponning, wifi was matig enigszins ontvangst in woonkamer maar niet bij het zwembad of slaapkamers. Wij hebben gebruik gemaakt van het diner ‘s avonds en dat was matig tot correct, wij waren de enige gasten die daar aten, wat eerlijk gezegd ook niet bijdroeg aan de hele beleving. Bij het appartement ontbrak er een ligstoel voor de derde persoon en ook de parasol was kapot. Zwembad water rond uit troebel met een groene afzetting aan de rand. Kwaliteit van de lichtstoelen in het zwembad was teleurstellend; dit was al eerder opgemerkt in vorige recensies, maar blijkbaar wordt dat niet opgepakt. Daarnaast veel overlast van vliegen, uiteraard is dit lastig te beïnvloeden door het management wanneer je verblijft op het platteland. Daarnaast hebben wij een flinke rat zien lopen rond 19:00 ‘s avonds. Helaas hadden we geen geluk, want er was ook een stroomstoring en complete water afsluiting voor meer dan twaalf uren lang, obv daarvan hebben wij de vakantie afgebroken ivm niet kunnen doorspoelen van het toilet en geen douche water. Er zijn ongetwijfeld redenen die verklaren waarom er in de locale infrastructuur dit soort situaties zich kunnen voordoen. Waar het totaal aan ontbrak is pro-activiteit en communicatie vanuit het management. Er werd totaal niet pro-actief gecommuniceerd of oplossingen aangedragen. Zo moesten wij zelf vragen om flessen water en updates omtrent water. Onze indruk is dat er niet voldoende d.m.v. watertanks wordt geanticipeerd op dit soort omstandigheden. All in all lijkt het te ontbreken aan passie en betrokkenheid bij het personeel en dat is niet het geen wat je mag verwachten van een 4 sterren resort.
