Wadi Sabarah Lodge

Very different to the run-of-the-mill Egyptian resort hotels. The owner clearly has a deep affection for his culture and a strong commitment to eco-tourism which shines through in the way the hotel is designed and run. The complex is around two years old and fairly small (around 60 rooms). Built out of local stone to a high standard of architecture. The room we stayed in was a junior suite and enormous - really nice. There is an onsite dive centre (Emperor) and many of the guests when we were there were out during the day either diving or on other excursions which meant it was unbelievably quiet and peaceful. The 'library' is full of books and local artefacts whilst in the basement the owner has put together what can only be described as a museum dedicated to Egyptian costumes and other artefacts. Outside at the bottom of the hill is a large 'botanic garden' full of desert plants which leads down to a secluded beach. This is probably a hotel for 'grown-ups' who want a high-quality peaceful stay with great food, no pool music and fantastic accommodation. We will be back

a very beautiful place. we enjoyed it alot. so much more peaceful than all the other hotels we have been to in Egypt. a quiet place with not too many people, excellent food (you can't choose a la carte; so basically you can choose between "with meat/Fish" or vegeterian, but it's so good!!!) and very nice staff members. Especially the boys at the restauant! we would come back here!

An amazing place, very down to earth, very simple and grounding. It is a place where you go and disconnect with all electronics, so no TVs and no phone in the room. They have this QR code that you scan in case you want to communicate with customer service to ask for an extra towel, room cleaning ... Anything you need. They have a diving center, they are plastic free, so they give you a glass bottle that you can refill when necessary. I would recommend you get your flask so you can easily carry it around and refill whenever. A very serene view, I believe all rooms are sea view. I'll show you some pictures! Enjoy!!

Everything is so beautiful- peaceful and quiet.The lodge is amazingly designed sympathetic to the environment with stunning views and beautiful lighting and textures . The staff were very friendly, helpful and professional, food was Egyptian - fresh and delicious.A perfect setting to relax and recharge with lots of interesting excursions if you want to. A refreshing change from normal big Egyptian hotels if you are looking for something different in Egypt. The botanical gardens, made with love and a vision to save and regenerate rare plants from the desert are absolutely amazing. Thanks to all staff and Management and specialthanks yo Mariam who made our stay easy and was our guide to discover the Gallary.

No TV, No WIFI (or so bad might aswell not be there), No lift and no choice at all in the food and the very expensive bar is the way I could summarise this experience. The food was well below average for a 2/3 star hotel, and there is literally no shop or restaurant near by an unforgettable experience for all the wrong reasons.

Should have been good, but wasn’t I have to say that the room I had (302) was really great; it had a massive bed and was clean with a good view of the sea. The air con worked and the ceiling fan also gave extra help. There was a kettle plus two cups, ordinary tea bags and mint tea bags, and the mini fridge was stocked with two large bottles of water, two cans of Coke and two cans of Sprite. There was a one (two) pack of Ferrero Rochet and there should have been a Snickers and Chips (crisps) but that was hit and miss through the whole time. Let me re-iterate there is no phone in the room, so you had to use a QR code to contact reception which manifested itself as emails back and forth. Also, there was no TV either. There was a safe, but not large enough to put in a small laptop. The food at the hotel for a vegetarian was sub-standard which was very disappointing. This was the same for breakfast and dinner. I don’t know what the lunch-time menu was like. Also, there wasn’t a choice of selection in the evening. It was either one or the other. I say this now, as the mini bar was not stocked up again each day and I can’t recall how many times I had to email to ask for stuff. Wi-fi in the room was so hit and miss; one minute it would be good and the next it was non-existent. Also, if you like a cold shower, you won’t get one in the room. The Dive Centre was ok, although the shore dives were average. Also, the boat dives tend to moor at the same location even though you are doing two dives; I do wonder if that’s the right strategy given that you tend to see the same stuff. Be careful of their “No show” policy which wasn’t great; I informed them that I was too ill to dive the Night Dive which they then cancelled as it was too rough, and I still got charged 10 Euros! One saving grace was Mido; what a fab dive guide he was. They other guys at the Emperor Dive Finally, I don’t know why, but on the last morning I was asked to for a tip; that was new to me in Egypt, and I wonder why. This wasn’t a cheap dive 7-day break so wasn’t expecting that. So, all in all, it should have been a good experience, but it wasn’t! I would avoid this hotel unless it has some serious attention.
