Anantaya Resort & Spa Chilaw

My wife and I recently stayed in a suite at Anantaya Resort & Spa, Chilaw, and it was an absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. The view from our suite was breathtaking — overlooking the calm lagoon and lush surroundings The staff were friendly and attentive, always greeting us with genuine smiles and making sure every need was met. The food / buffet was excellent Overall it’s a great stay to experience for somebody who is searching for a resort type stay

Worst Experience Ever at Anantaya Resorts, Chilaw – Extremely DisappointingWorst Experience Ever at Anantaya Resorts, Chilaw – Extremely Disappointing Traveled all the way from Colombo expecting a peaceful and luxurious getaway, but sadly, Anantaya Resorts in Chilaw turned out to be a complete letdown. First off, the food was absolutely bland and tasteless — definitely not worth the price you're paying. For a resort of this category, the culinary standards were shockingly poor. What made things worse was the lack of basic cleanliness. The condition of the room and common areas was absurd — far from what you'd expect from a so-called "luxury" resort. Hygiene seemed to be a low priority across the board. Overall, this stay ruined the whole getaway experience. With high expectations and a long drive, I was left frustrated and disappointed. Definitely not recommended — there are far better options in Sri Lanka for the same (or even less) price. We went to Anantaya Resort from our office, and we had such an amazing time! The view was absolutely beautiful, the rooms were super comfortable, and everything was just perfect. A special shout-out to Viraj, the Anantaya Hotel Animator, who made our day even more fun with the games and activities he organized. Thanks to him, we enjoyed way more than we expected and had an unforgettable experience! 💫

A perfect getaway for those seeking peace and quiet. The hotel is far from the city, and in October weekdays it was almost empty. Special thanks to our guide Viraj for his great company and entertainment! The beach is excellent and the staff is very friendly. Highly recommended for a secluded retreat. You can take a one-day transfer to touristic places from the hotel.

Stayed: 24th–26th (Premium Room) Our family weekend stay at Ananthaya Holiday Resort & Spa was unfortunately far below expectations. While the welcome at the main gate was warm and professional, the experience quickly declined. There was no assistance with luggage upon arrival, and accessibility is extremely limited — especially for elderly guests. Thankfully, a very kind and attentive reception lady helped relocate our room closer, which we truly appreciated. However, we encountered several serious issues. The walkway to the room had a strong, unpleasant odor, likely from the lagoon area. The room initially had no locker, and it took until evening to receive one. Much more concerning were the cleanliness and hygiene problems: we found dead and live cockroaches in the bathroom, and when we switched on the Jacuzzi, dead cockroaches and ants came out of the jets. The buffet was the biggest disappointment — extremely limited variety, poor food quality, and unhygienic conditions. We even discovered dead flies in the cutlery tray and had to request staff to clean it. Unfortunately, we developed upset stomachs after the meals and decided to check out early, skipping breakfast and lunch on the second day. While the reception lady and gate staff were excellent, the overall standards of cleanliness, food safety, and maintenance were far below what is expected from a hotel marketed as a star-class property. “Ananthaya” means Infinity, but sadly, this resort feels infinitely far from meeting true star-class hospitality. Until major improvements are made, I cannot recommend this hotel.
