Hotel Atlantic El Tope

Stayed here for 3 weeks this time last year and did a review then , but we liked it enough to return and having done 4 weeks of a five week stay, feel qualified enough to write another!I think some of the negative reviews on here are from people who expect too much, if you want 5 star luxury, it is available up the road at the hotel Botanico ( at 3 times the price) I’m not saying its perfect and there is some building work going on at the moment as the hotel is being upgraded but it has a relaxed feel, never too busy or noisy, the pool area is lovely, and the new rooftop bar and jacuzzis are beautiful. But the main thing we love about this hotel is the staff, they are all so friendly and helpful. Pedro the restaurant manager, they guy who looks after the pool and surrounding area, Ruth our room maid, are typical hard working but lovely friendly people and are a credit to the hotel along with many others. We will be returning!

Our money and RayBan sunglasses were stolen from our hotel room. Money was stolen from two different purses and one purse was INSIDE of my bag. We suspected it was taken around breakfast time when it was the only time we left our money in the room. SUSPICIOUSLY, OUR ROOM CARDS DID NOT WORK THE SAME MORNING. We thought it was a technical issue but later the receptionist said our check out date was wrong in the system (RIDICULOUS, because she before asked with her mouth if we are leaving X time). And we did NOT take the sunglasses out of the room for 3 days, so there was NO WAY that we lost our minds and lost everything at once somewhere else. Generally, receptionists were extremely careless towards the situation, told that we might drop things under the bed, and indicated the police station’s location on the map in case we want to report 🙂 We also asked them to check the card access to our room. Then they showed us that we were the only people entering the room (it did not even show the cleaning staff entering the room). But the most problematic part was TIME STAMPS WERE WRONG. SO we couldn’t confirm the times we were actually in the room. God forbid if any other crime happens in that hotel, no one will know what happened when. We see many old people visit that hotel, probably with tours but if you are rather a young family or couple, avoid going to that hotel. There are more reasons than stolen valuables for not going to that hotel: Construction is continuous for the whole weekdays, everywhere is noise and dust, so absolutely no chance you can rest there. Rooms are worn out (you can see the pictures). Pool is dirty and cold. Never coming back again nor recommending.

I visited this hotel on a last minute deal but was a bit wary of some of the reviews. However, from the arrival I got great vibes. The receptionist welcomed me with a smile and I loved my room with an amazing Teide view, which was worth the extra as I like to enjoy a relaxing drink on the balcony. There is a kettle in the room but no coffee. To me, the location is perfect. The hotel is situated on a short steep hill or up a few stairs. If you go down, you are near the Martianez shopping centre with Mercadona supermarket for your odds and ends and the seafront. If you go up, you are near Agatha Christie’s stairs, La Paz area and the Botanical garden or in the opposite direction, the Sitio Litre Orchid Garden and Taoro/Sortija park. There is also a bus stop nearby where you can catch a bus to Orotava, La Laguna, Santa Cruz or Icod de los Vinos, etc. I was on half board and enjoyed the food. There is no show cooking but everything that you would usually find in a buffet show cooking, was available. The hot food was constantly replaced. There were many traditional Canarian and Spanish dishes as well as international ones. Once a week, there was cava at the breakfast buffet. What I really appreciated about this hotel was that you can use the swimming pool ‘at your own risk’ until 8pm. The hotel pools in Spain tend to close strictly at 6pm and when I return to the hotel after a day of exploring in the sun, I want to have a refreshing swim later in the day. I have stayed in Puerto de la Cruz four times and the Atlantic El Tope is my hotel of choice.

I cannot recommend this stunning hotel enough! The hotel itself is situated perfectly beside the beautiful beach, it boasts a top of the range amenities. The staff are so welcoming, friendly and proficient. They really go the extra mile. We were celebrating a birthday and cannot wait to return. We have already booked our next stay Nov 3rd this year. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Annemarie x

Visited this hotel on last minute deal. So into the unknown. Well it turned out a great pick. The hotel was spacious and very clean . The staff were amazing and so friendly and accommodating if you had a question to ask. The room was clean and had great views of the sea even when it was called a limited sea view. We were half way up a hill so going up or down there are plenty of steps , but they are manageable even for me being an OAP and lead to some great places . Overall had a fantastic time , recommend the roof top bar . Would I recommend the hotel. Yes I would .

Definitely not 4 star , no coffee or tea facilities in the room , staff on reception not friendly, on a steep hill so no good for disabled people . Not a relaxing atmosphere as there's building noise through the day. Fridge not working, reception don't care .
