Hotel Costa Calero Thalasso & Spa

We are just back from a relaxing week at the Costa Calero. This is a very large hotel with several pools and many different activities and entertainment throughout the day. The food in the recently renovated dining room is excellent both at breakfast and at dinner with the service being with a smile. We noticed some of the staff working in different departments throughout the day so some may have been working quite a lot of hours . The room we had on the first night had a strong smell on the outside when we went to sit on the terrace but we were moved into a different room on the other side of the hotel the following day which had a sea view and no smell. The activities throughout the day were enjoyable . This ranged from darts, table tennis, pistol shooting, archery and shuffleboard for the adults and a kids club for the youngsters. The Animacion team were very enthusiastic and a lot of fun to be with, some of them took part in the shows at night as well. The hotel is just a couple of hundred yards from the marina and it’s easy going bars and restaurants, just be aware that it is a little bit of a climb to get back up to the hotel after a few sherries too many. There’s also a lovely cliff top walk from Puerto Calero and Puerto del Carmen which takes around an hour. Once you get to PDC you will find an abundance of bars and restaurants . We really enjoyed ourselves and probably will be back next year for a weeks winter sunshine. was quite worried about going here after the reviews..how wrong they were..we were.prestige had an amazing room with great views a stocked fridge and huge bed imaculate we had use of the AI bar with well stocked premium drinks and snacks the meals were fantastic fresh and not cold at all...the breakfast were the best I had for choice and believe me have some in my time fhere is a free bus to the next resort and it's worth the walk to the harbour for food and drinks overall the hotel is great what makes it special is ALL the staff. ignore the reviews and try it

This is our 2nd visit When we arrived at our room a bottle of champagne on ice and chocolate truffles were waiting to welcome us . Which I thought was a lovely touch , thanking us for our return visit . We were half board as we don't drink. I feel like most of the complaints I read are alcohol related so maybe not wanting alcohol we have a different experience. Everywhere is spotlessly clean , everyone I spoke to was polite and kind and friendly. I feel very at home here. There are lots of activities to do daily which are a great way to meet people too. The only downer was one of the entertainment staff ...a v slim female with glasses wouldn't let my son compete with adults in the boules game because he was 12. Now I could understand this in peak season where there are lots of kids his age about, but he's 12 and looks about 15 ,he's also autistic and wouldn't enjoy a mini club ...he is not mini sized ! And for goodness sake what does it matter anyway ,please relax your rules when you can see he's too big for a mini club. She was training a new member of the entertainment team , Alexandro . My son really liked him and I think he will be an asset to the team. We love catching the hotel bus and going into the main town . A nice touch was Father Christmas showing up and giving my son a Christmas stocking filled with goodies. Lots of delicious foods , especially the salads on offer . Different fish and meat everyday , lovely hot puddings .... especially the strudel...oh goodness I loved the strudel. Lots of variety. I want to address a review where they said they struggled to get water or wine at the table ...I was there for 7 days in April and 7 days this month and not once did I struggle to get water or a soft drink. Someone came up to our table in the evening every night and asked what we wanted and there was always someone around to ask if we needed . So don't be put off thinking it's difficult because it isn't . We will definitely be back , we already talked about it ! We love you Costa Calero. We were a bit apprehensive about our holiday due to some recent negative reviews but we didn’t need to worry, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return. We booked Prestige which was great for us, especially if you enjoy a good brandy! All top shelf branded drinks were included apart from French Champagne and mixers included Coca Cola and fever tree. We enjoyed all our meals and found all staff very friendly and pleasant. The hotel grounds were beautiful and there was no problem getting a sun bed at any time of day. We used the complementary shuttle bus one morning to visit Puerto del Carmen and walked down to the marina on market day. The show bar was very comfortable but we preferred the piano bar, one area for improvement would be if the hotel could provide entertainment in the piano bar every evening. Already planning next years visit!

We stayed at the Calero Hotel from Friday, 15th November, to Tuesday, 19th November 2024, as a couple. The transfer was quick and easy, taking only about 20 minutes. The hotel itself was fantastic and exceeded our expectations in many ways. Check-in was a bit slow, and there were queues at reception during most of our stay, which was the only downside to an otherwise seamless arrival. The food and drinks were excellent, with plenty of variety and no complaints at all in that department. The staff were incredibly hardworking and polite, which added to the overall enjoyment of our trip. One area for improvement would be the poolside bar during the day, which seemed under-staffed, leading to queues. However, this may have been due to the time of year (November). The hotel grounds were immaculate, and it was lovely to explore the clean and beautifully maintained surroundings. With several pools and entertainment options day and night, there was always something to do. The nearby port, just a short walk away, had charming bars and restaurants. The free shuttle to Playa del Carmen was a bonus, and the beach there was stunning. Despite some rain, the heated spa pool was a great way to relax. The weather was pleasant at around 26°C, and we didn’t need any warm clothing during our stay. One suggestion would be to include safe key charges in the room rate, as "all-inclusive" should cover these small extras. Overall, it was a fantastic holiday, and we highly recommend the Calero Hotel.

Beautiful hotel well kept great staff lovely rooms . Great food loads of choice . Really excellent entertainment. Cannot fault this hotel one bit. We has a really special time made great by the hotels excellence. Thanks all the staff for their hard work.
