This hotel is fabulous. It is made up of individual studio apartments comprising of bedroom, decent sized bathroom with large powerful shower. They also each have a little covered patio area with a hob, microwave, fridge and coffee maker. We stayed in superior studio number 5, which was just up the slope from reception. There are some apartments further up the hill which I suspect had a sea view but we had lovely trees and plants around us so there was plenty to look at and listen to. As others have said, some of the walkways are really steep (as is lots of Basse-Terre) so it might be worth mentioning when booking if you have mobility issues. There is WiFi throughout the hotel and in your room. The air conditioning and fan a god send! We were booked on a bed and breakfast basis. Breakfast had everything you wanted, hot or cold, delicious fruit juices and fresh fruit every day. There are fresh mangoes everywhere! We booked a table and ate at the restaurant a couple of times. Fairly reasonable though I did struggle with vegetarian options - there was really only one. I found this in a lot of the restaurants in Deshaies actually, which was a little disappointing and repetitive. We didn’t use the pool, but it was meticulously cleaned every morning before opening. The gardens are fabulous and again maintained very well. We saw lots of lizards, humming birds, and the cats! I’m a cat lover so it was wonderful watching the kittens playing. They do all like to beg and you are discouraged from feeding them. Grande-Anse beach is a few minutes walk away. It is quite a steep shelf so on some days there was quite a wave for playing in - just something to be wary of if you have smaller children or not a strong swimmer. Most of the time it was flat calm. There are a couple of restaurants there. There was also a little takeaway booth next to Les Hibiscus that served bokits and fries and chicken, which was handy if you just wanted a snack. Most of these were closed in the evenings. We hired a car and travelled quite a lot of both sides of the island. I would recommend this. We visited Plage de la Perle beach (where the inspector’s shack is, if you are a Death in Paradise fan) and preferred this somewhat to Grande Anse. There were a few more restaurants open, and it was less crowded so more shade! The weather was very hot and quite humid at times with a couple of really heavy downpours. This in turn brought the mosquitoes out, and my husband and I were bitten quite badly, even with the bracelets and spray! We noticed lots of others nursing nasty bites too! Possibly the time of year. Take your plug ins if you have them! We didn’t and I regretted it. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Helped to have a little French but their English was very good. Excellent stay at HGA. The location is excellent, just across the road and up the hill from Grand Anse Beach (less than 10 minute walk). Our room was immaculate, the restaurant for daily breakfast was very good, and the grounds and pool and all facilities were beautifully maintained. Hope to visit again.

We had a lovely week here over Easter. The grounds are beautiful, although quite steep - we were quite glad that we weren't at the top of the hill! The staff were very friendly. The pool was a little on the cool side, We made friends with a cat that lived on site. It's only a 5 minute walk to the beach.

We stayed at HGA for two weeks in a second floor suite with an outdoor kitchen on the terrace. Everything was as advertised in a very beautiful setting. Staff were extremely friendly: reception, cleaning staff, and gardeners. All friendly and eager to help. The pool is probably the cleanest we have ever been to, this can also be said of the rooms, which were well appointed and comfortable. The air-conditioning was efficient and quiet, kept us cool on some very hot nights. Grounds are well kept and there was constant work being done to maintain them. The kitchen had everything we needed for a simple meal, which was nice after a day of being out, we just wanted to dine in on the deck. We are Death in Paradise fans and we were lucky to bump into a scene being filmed and had our picture taken with the lead actor. Short walk to the beach and to a gas station/store that had most needs. Overall, we had a great stay and would highly recommend this establishment.

A great resort with friendly staff and they recently hired a young woman at the desk who speaks excellent English. The balconies have a great view and small kitchens. The grounds are well kept and the kitchen is excellent. We ate at the restaurant on site frequently over the two weeks stay. As english speaking Canadians we have some French and were able to communicate a bit in French. Proximity to the one of the best beaches in the Caribbean was the selling point but we did not expect the nearby hiking, swimming with turtles, and visits to the local chocolate maison. Ask for a local driver and see the sights.

We stayed in this hotel for 7 nights in May, i.e. low season. We arrived at 8pm when reception was already closed but there was a sign for us with a number to call and assistance arrived within a couple of minutes. Please note that Google maps has the address for this place slightly wrong. We followed the directions and ended up a few roads further on, having to do a three point turn in the dark and with the backwheels in a ditch! The next morning the manager took us back with a few helpful blokes who managed to lift the car out without any problems, great assistance! We opted to have breakfast every morning. Whilst it may seem expensive €15.50 per person) what you pay for is having limitless breakfadt in a beautiful setting overlooking the pool. Btw, this hotel was the setting for one of the death in paradise episodes. Breakfast was buffet style with fruit, yoghurts, cheese and cold meats, , pastries, rolls, cereals and cooked eggs to order. On days where there are only very few people you have the breakfast delivered directly to you table. Whilst we were there, the restaurant was closed but we managed to sort ourselves out a quick snack from the basic food store next door (by the petrol station) and after that found a couple of larger supermarkets towards St. Rose (E Leclerc and Carrefour). Of the two, we preferred the carrefour where we also managed to buy some cheap towels for the beach. The apartments on our side had all been newly renovated and were beautifully done up. The main room has aircon enabling a good nights sleep. The bathroom feels luxurious with a walk in shower. The terrace has a small kitchen corner with a fridge, microwave and a two ring ceramic hob. There was plenty of equipment to cook for two. Mosquitos were a problem though, even with 50% deet but so far, no major effects. I would definitely recommend this hotel. Hire a car and there are plenty of attractions to explore within an hours drive.

We were happy there. We spent 10 nights at this hotel. What you can expect: Beautiful see - only the strong wind all the time, so also big waves (but yes, swimming is possible, but dangerous); clean rooms, kind staff. The breakfast - bit boring, every day quite the same offer.

Très sympa le sera encore plus après les travaux en cours dommage que ce ne soit pas indiqué en amont et de découvrir en arrivant que le site est en gros travaux ! Mis à part ce gros détail le personnel est très agréable et les ouvriers essayent de ne pas faire trop de bruit .
