SBH Hotel Royal Mónica

Basic hotel but don’t feel we paid basic prices so feel a bit disappointed as the photos and the description of our room was not accurate. Our room was dated, in need of repair, there was an electrical socket hanging off the wall, the patio door was broken to the point of being dangerous and there was no air conditioning as promised. We asked to be upgraded due to the issues but I was happy to pay extra (I don’t like to complain) and were told the hotel was full. Positive aspects - staff are friendly and try to be helpful and they can’t help being limited with a lack of resources. Our room was clean but very sparse and basic, the AC did not work and when I spoke to reception about this they sighed and pulled out a book of names to add our room to. The receptionist explained the engineer was from Gran Canaria and hadn’t arrived yet to fix the problem which was affecting most of the hotel. She shook her head and said, “It’s nothing new, we are aware” I wasn’t able to drink the wine available at dinner times as it was so acidic, but it was on tap and part of the all-inclusive arrangement. You can pay extra for a bottle of wine (about 13euros) if you prefer but it’s not the quality you would expect on the continent. Food was reasonable but nothing to get excited about. Very samey, desserts bland (flavoured mousse, tinned fruit) and lacking in variety, lots of choice for main meals, but very basic and bulk cooked so you can’t expect the same quality as you would expect in restaurants. The thing I liked least about the hotel is that it is spread out some distance and not at all enclosed or secure. The pool area is by the beach and open to the public, as is the apartments which are accessible from the main road and car park areas. I felt this was unusual and for this reason I would probably not rebook or advise for those travelling with children.

Have to comment on my massage I got from Gloria omg she was amazing one of the best I got highly recommend you book with her on ur arrival .hotel is beautiful and clean food really good .staff are very friendly and helpful s very relaxing holiday

Well what can I say! Yes it's slightly outdated but really nice place to stay. The food was fine,lots of choices. Yes rooms seen better days but very clean. The staff are friendly and always say Hola with a smile. There's chefs cooking food in front of the holiday makers in the dining area. The pool was absolutely freezing It's a great place to stay,very quiet. There's alot of elderly people but I'm guessing it's the time of year. There's a lovely receptionist called Sabrina who we met at 9pm on day of arrival. They had kindly saved us dinner,she took us to the dinner area once we'd put out cases in our room. There was no rushing us,it was a lovely welcome. Didn't hang around for any entertainment so can't comment on that. The animation staff around the pool are lovely. All round I'd definitely recommend this hotel at a very reasonable price for some lovely hot weather.

Would not recommend this hotel if you are English, the food and entertainment was aimed more to the French and German. The entertainment for the 10 nights we spent there over Christmas was the staff doing bingo/quiz's. The hotel was fully booked and having the bare minimum entertainment for Christmas was very very disappointing. The food was barely edible. The room was not up to 3 star standard with facilities and cleanliness. We had to pay €10 deposit for the air on that barely worked. The shower curtain was stained and mouldy at the bottom. The path to the room and around the pool was not safe to walk in bare foot and there is sharp tiles in the pool which cut me the first time I went in resulting in me not using it again. The cutlery, plates and cups did not feel or smell clean resulting us to buying bottles from the shop most of the time. Definitely do not recommend, it is more of a 2 star than 3 in my opinion.

Absolutely awful place. How is it called a hotel? Its a lobby with a reception desk, rooms are outside in blocks. No hotel bar, only a pool bar which is a wooden shed, then a self service room with beer & wine on tap. Food very bad, just disgusting.. And if you think you get what you pay for, well it cost almost as much for 10 days via love holidays, as a travel agent for 14 days in a 4 star in fuerteventura in February. So so dated, only thing saving this trip is the location and some nice staff, except for an older blonde lady on the front desk, rude & ignorant. And if you are on ground floor you've to drag bags down steps, and onto broken paths. Not wheelchair or disability friendly whatsoever.

Arrived about 11.30 at night. Given the key to room 1019, ground floor. Directions given were not clear by the receptionist. All I needed after a long day of travelling. Managed to find it eventually. Room with 2 single beds pushed together. It's very clean, but very out of date. Towels were old and thin in patches. The sliding patio door was a nightmare to shut. The frame wasn't that secure. Agree with previous comments regarding food. Wasn't the hottest beans always cold. Only one toaster for all in the main restaurant which causes a que, and only one counter with a few different ice-creams which again, causes a que. Beach bar by the pool was so out of date and positioned quite far away for some. No beach here. Rocks and definitely not safe to swim in. The seafront, as they call it, has a public walkway with joggers from early in the morning til evening. I was a bit concerned about being on my own at night and so close to the walkway. It was ok. There is a lot of noise at night. People above me, next door and outside. Take earplugs. The TV had no English channels. I did not pay a deposit for a remote control for the air con. In this day and age, it's not heard of. The room definitely needs a mini fridge and kettle. There is no information pack at all in the room. There's not much info in reception. To get to the beaches, marina or bus station, you need to catch the number 30 bus at Faro Park 10 minutes from the Hotel. The small area for kids looks unsafe. The toddlers pool is next door to the main pool, so not ideal if you have children of different ages if you want to keep an eye on them. The new photos that have been updated on the website are not realistic. There are showers by the pool. In one block, only one shower. The other block had 3 showers but only one working. The paths around the whole site were not even and needed repairing. Not for those that have walking difficulties. Check out is 11 am. My transport was as 18.40 so I had to wait in the reception area. I asked to use the complimentary room to shower in after sitting by the pool all day, but was told they had none and use the shower by the pool which had no privacy. This could be a good hotel if money was put into it. Needs so much updating and basics in the rooms such as kettle and mini fridge. No deposit for a remote controller for air con and a tv with English channels. WiFi was basically non existent. Hotel is definitely no more than 3 stars. Food is ok, but waiting for some food to come out took ages. Food could be cold.
