Saplinbrae Hotel and Lodges

Wonderful meal for my 60th birthday with exceptional service. Excellent food all round but the short rib and lamb was to die for, wow. Recommend the cheesecake with rhubarb compote. Great selections of wine. Faultless and without question we will be back, thoroughly recommend.

A wonderful find, the lodge was ideal and I am so glad we decided to eat in the hotel. I understand why it is necessary to reserve your place at dinner as the hotel seems to be a favourite with the local community for that special occasion . However i should add breakfast is marvellous with the pancakes with crispy bacon and maple syrup now my favourite treat.

We stayed here for one night as part of our touring holiday of Scotland. We liked our room, it was very comfortable with a lovely en suite and a big bonus, included some super large white fluffy towels. We were made to feel very welcome by the staff, and also enjoyed an evening meal in the hotel restaurant with our friends. The Saplinbrae was one of our less expensive accommodations but we felt it represented excellent value for money when compared to other places we stayed at.

We had a very nice stay at Saplinbrae. Property is clean, staff was lovely and food was delicious-the lamb loin was the best I’ve ever had. Although breakfast offerings were typical Scottish fares, my husband and I really enjoyed our choices. The room was comfortable and quiet. Would stay again.

This is a lovely hotel in a fabulous location. The lake behind the hotel made for excellent morning and evening walks after eating. The food was amazing, dinner on both evenings was perfect, they clearly have a talented chef! The staff were lovely and the room was very comfortable.

After a strenuous bike tour, we stayed overnight at the Hotel & Lodge Saplinbrea. We were given a warm welcome. We stayed overnight in the lodge. The room was very clean, well equipped and the mattresses were very comfortable. The dinner and breakfast were excellent.

It seems that there are few places to stay in the Aberdeenshire countryside so Saplinbrae is perhaps a rare find - and the only find! We're glad we did find it. This isa hotel doing lots of things very well. We arrived back at the hotel at 3pm on the Saturday afternoon hungry for some lunch (not many options in Aberdeenshire!) and it was full of people enjoying afternoon tea and others there for a special event. We asked hopefully if lunch was still possible: no problem, said one of the servers, take a seat. We had some excellent home made soup and the bread they use from the Ythan Bakery. Saplinbrae is good for food. We had dinner on the Friday and Saturday evenings. It's not a big menu but it is full of local produce. I was glad to see that burgers were absent! The food was excellent, piping hot and the servers knew the menu and could explain the dishes: full marks. A large Glen Garioch whisky beside the wood stove in the dining room was a good and to our meals. Breakfasts were also good but perhaps lacked the 'wow' factor of the evening meals. Our bedroom for two nights was perfectly fine but if it's the case that Saplinbrae is focussed on their food offering they could maybe give a wee bit of attention to the rooms and achieve the same standard. One thing for sure, they didn't skimp on the heating, which was appreciated: April was a rather dreich month! In summary: excellent staff and food, fine accomodation and very good value for money we thought.

Booked the hotel on chance and certainly no regrets. Very friendly, organised and comfortable. Plenty of breakfast choice. Food was amazing.
