Huilo Huilo Cabañas del Bosque

The surrounding area are very nice, immersed in the forest, but the cabin itself was terrible. The cabin was for 6 people, but all spaces were too small. The cabins table was not able to seat 6, the bathroom very tight and not enough plates for everyone. The shower was broken so we had to call the front desk to get it repaired, fortunately they fixed it within an hour. You would think that 250 USD a night would get you at least a cabin with soap and shampoo, but there was nothing. And we didn’t get a hand towel either. Besides all that, the cabin is very poorly constructed, tight spaces, electrical conduit on plain sight, holes on the wall and a very steep and unsafe stair. In conclusion, the cabin is not worth what you pay for.

Perfect for famlilies, although the terrace is small for BBQ. Beautiful surroundings, treckings, better than expected. Comfortable cabin, for 6 people, very clean. Easy acces to the parks, to the hotel.

We loved having an economical stay here in the Huilo Huilo Biological Reserve. For a fraction of the cost of one of their famous hotel rooms, we had all the same privileges, except for priority seating in the restaurant. We got complimentary access to all trails and the Volcano Museum. We stayed 5 nights and felt it was a perfect length of stay. PROS: (1) Top-notch trails which included old-growth forests and multiple powerful waterfalls; (2) Comfortable cozy bed; (3) attentive staff, checking in with WhatsApp each morning and evening; (4) stunning location, smack in the middle a UNESCO Biosphere reserve. We loved that there was so much to do right without having to drive anywhere. (5) We paid for one naturalist-guided tour that was outstanding. Guide spoke English. (6) Fascinating conservation experiment that combined preserving an important and huge piece of land, with an economically sustaining revenue generator. BE AWARE: (1) treacherous bathtub/shower combo, slippery with an unusually high clearance above a slippery bathroom floor; we had to spot each other getting out of the tub. (2) heating is by wood-burning stove only. Luckily the bed is in a loft, which was toasty all night. (3) refrigerator is a tiny, college-dorm size appliance. We managed fine. (4) signage in the reserve and on the trails are insufficient for easy navigation. We would have gotten lost, if we didn't have a tracking map on our cell phone. Printed maps are also oddly uninformative, with scale not accurate and many trails missing. (5) Buildings are worn out. Not sure if this is due to the damp weather or to Covid-impacted loss of income. We were understanding. (6) Few staffers spoke English. Our Spanish was good enough that it wasn't a problem, but given that their website offers English, one would expect language support upon arrival.

Fue una experiencia inolvidable. La belleza del lugar, amabilidad del personal hicieron la combinación perfecta para un fin de semana espectacular.

En general la experiencia fue muy grata, a excepción de una caída que tuvo mi esposa en el baño, que le provocó un hematoma de considerables dimensiones, el cual considero peligroso por una mala distribución, el acceso a la tina de baño es peligroso y muy resbaladizo, al menos el de la cabaña n12 Por lo demás, tal y como esperábamos, es un lugar mágico. No es la primera vez q lo visitamos y estoy seguro que volveremos, aunque no a esa cabaña

Lugar mágico, en medio del bosque ideal para desconectar. Con vistas preciosas, la cabaña cuenta con todo lo necesario para la estadía. Estuve 5 días y realmente se sintió como un hogar por ese periodo tan cortito de tiempo. El único detalle, pero que no influye para nada en mi calificación, es que al ser cabañas pareadas (las que son para dos personas) se escucha mucho el ruido de la cabaña de al lado. Importante ser consciente del ruido que hacemos si estamos en un lugar donde la mayoría busca tranquilidad. De todas maneras volveré.
