Hostal Pons

It’s an absolutely beautiful hotel but the shared bathroom situation is weird. There is tons of space in the hotel and I respect the authenticity of maintaining historical spaces, but I booked the tiny room next to the bathroom and all night long people were in and out, slamming doors and leaving puddles outside the bathroom. The staff was nice (female yes, male always seemed annoyed) and the wet floor + one towel made for some uncomfortable situations.

If you want an authentic, old-school European hotel/pensione experience, the Hostal Pons is for you! It is in a gorgeous Mallorcan home on a quiet sidestreet in the historic centre of Palma. You feel like you're entering another world as soon as you step through the heavy wooden doors. You walk up a flight of beautifully tiled stairs to get to reception, where you can see some of the beautiful and historic old living rooms of the house. Our double room was spacious, simply furnished, with a walk-in dressing area and a window onto the open-air stairwell (yes, there was occasional noise from other guests arriving and departing, but much less than we expected). We shared a bathroom, which was never an issue, even though the hotel was full. (And don't worry, the hotel is old and charming, but the bathroom was modern, tiled, and seemingly cleaned several times a day.) The neighbourhood is great-- you are a short stroll from good coffee, bakeries, restaurants, the Cathedral etc but the street itself is quiet. Hostal Pons probfably isn't for everyone-- if you like ultra modern hotel rooms with A/C, you will probably be happier elsewhere. But if you want to feel like you are staying in a beautiful Mallorcan home from the 1900s.... or experience a throwback to what European travel used to be like before hotel chains, give it a go.

Spent 3 nights. We do not do shared bathroom mostly, but reviews and location made us pick the place, fortunately. Firstly, there is this intelligent touch that they have a sink/lavabo in the room, so you do not need to go to the bathroom to wash your hands or brushing your teeth, and that also decreases the frequency of the shared bathroom/toilets usage to so some extent, they were mostly empty. The building is extremely authentic, adding a few photos. You can buy water and beer at a reasonable price, they also have indoors and outdoors places to kill some time. And there is Victoria & Gerard, quite nice and hardworking. They keep the place very tidy and try to help in any way. They even showed us where to park in white lines(free) which was a 10 min walk to the hotel. Considering the great location of the hotel, we were both able to drive to the great beaches of the island in the day and dine in the centre at nights. Hell of a holiday! Thanks guys.

Absolutely terrible experience with this irresponsible accommodation! We booked 2 rooms for me and my 70 y.o. mother. Our flight was delayed by 4h and we arrived after midnight. The property sent a message saying that the reception is open till 22:00, we can check in in the morning at 9:00. It is August, Saturday night, of course, all accommodations are fully booked. I didn’t manage to find any alternative and we are spending the night at the airport! It is very bad for elder people to spend a night just sitting on a bench sleepless!

I’ve been traveling alone in India for 9 month + many different countries and I never experienced a management this bad. The place and location is really good, but because of the experience I had the the people working there I cannot give more than one star. There are only two people running this hostel it seems which is a boy and his sister, not older than 23 I think. Their English is very limited and therefor it took a while just to make reservation. Two times there were problems and misunderstandings with my reservation. The second time I had booked a room for 3 weeks, but when I arrived I was told that someone else was staying there as they decided to give the room to this person since he could stay longer than I and I guess their thought was that they could get more money this way. In stead they offered me a very tiny jail-like room for the same amount of money (!). Since I’m doing an internship here and everything was booked up just before Easter and arrived in the evening, I was obviously very frustrated as I had no other place to go. Suddenly, as I defense I think, the boy told me some other guest had said that I was disrespectful for smoking in my room from my previous stay. Im a non-smoker and had no idea what this was about, but luckily this man coincidentally walked by and when I asked him if he thought I was disrespectful towards him he said no, I don’t know you. The host boy said he might have confused me with someone else... I think the boy got so frustrated by his own poor conscience and ethics that he at 11PM asked me to find another place to stay. I told him if he was aware that he was basically asking me to sleep on the streets as I had no other place to go and did not have money to pay 300EU for a night at the nearby fancy hotels, but he didn’t seem to care and just wished me a good evening. Never have I experienced such a low management and human behavior. I hope no one will get to experience what I had to experience at this place.

Nefasto. La habitación que me adjudicaron no tenía ventana accesible por lo que no la podía abrir. además no tenía cortina, por lo que no podía evitar la luz solar en la habitación lo que dificulta el sueño. Ruidoso. El retrete, compartido con otros huéspedes no tiene lavabo y la cisterna es inoperativa pues suelta muy poca cantidad de agua de modo que es fácil encontrasr excrementos de otros huéspedes. El check out es extremadamente pronto. El personal hostil. No hay desayuno ni puedes adquirir una botella de agua en el propio establecimiento. Cero recomendable.
