Petani Bay Hotel - Adults Only

What a gem of a hotel on the west coast of Kefalonia. We were looking for a small adult only place to stay and were lucky to find this lovely boutique hotel. It is a family run affair, with Voula and her husband George at the helm, and their lovely adult children George & Elena helping to provide a seamless, relaxing and happy stay. Nothing was too much trouble for them to organise including arranging a private speedboat trip, booking restaurants and even giving us lifts down to the stunning beach just below the hotel before we decided we needed to hire a car, which Voula kindly organised for us. We had a lovely small suite with breathtaking panoramic views across the bay. The room had a small kitchen area with a fridge and there was a small dining table and chairs. The bed was very comfortable (even the pillows which I’m normally very critical of In hotels!). Breakfasts (included) were a delight with traditional Greek pastries, meats and cheeses available, alongside eggs, bacon, pastries and bread. Sitting on the terrace overlooking the stunning Petani Bay, eating watermelon, Greek honey & Yoghurt has got to be one of the best ways to start the day! The pool bar is lovely and open from 11 until 11. They serve drinks and coffees and then hot and cold food From their “snack” menu from 13.00. They are happy to provide iced water free of charge which is a bonus, especially in very hot weather. Relaxing chill out music plays which enhances the holiday vibe. The only downside to the hotel is that it is built on a hill (hence the staggering views) and therefore has many stairs and steps to get to the accommodation. It wasn’t a problem for us but for one of our adult daughters, who has a disability, it did present a few challenges. However Voula was very helpful and managed to relocate the two girls to a lower level room which we were very grateful for. Also, the hotel is in a very quiet location with only two tavernas within walking distance (the closest one of which you would NOT want to eat at!) and two others on the lovely beach below the hotel (the one we tried was great). The beach is down a very steep hill so not really suitable for walking, especially at night so all in all it is advisable (if not essential) to hire a car. There is a secure car provided for guests above the hotel (more stairs!). We will definitely return - as it seems many of their guests do! A really lovely place to stay!

I decided to visit Kefalonia after seeing a photo of the Petani Bay Hotel. So I had a lot of expectations. The hotel requires a minimum of 3 nights and Mrs. Voula kindly let me stay for the 2 nights I had available after changing my flight date. Before Petani Bay, we had stayed at the excellent Leivatho Hotel, where I paid less than half the price at Petani Bay and they offered us much more. The hotel is very beautiful, well maintained, with an incredible view of Petani Beach. The employee Helena is really fantastic. The room is very spacious, with a beautiful view of Petani Beach. Kitchen utensils scarce. There was almost nothing Great bathroom, shower and amenities. Very good breakfast. What was missing? It had everything to be spectacular but it was a normal accommodation, I even thought the price was high for what was offered. I paid less than half the price at Leivatho and they offered us much more. Conclusion: a beautiful hotel, in a beautiful place but it lacked a touch of affection for the guest and despite having a kitchen in the room, there were almost no utensils. Would I go back: maybe. Although the three-night minimum is too much in a hotel with no restaurant, no attractions other than the pool and neach.

Absolutely gorgeous hotel, with beautiful views, wonderful staff, amazing pool, and comfortable rooms. Had dinner there one night and it was delicious. The only reason for deducting a start and why we wouldn't stay there again is that it's so far removed from anything else. Really do need a car if staying there. There are 2 tavernas within walking distance that are ok. The beach is a long steep walk away and we didn't even bother going.
