Having stayed at a Premier Inn before some years back, I was reasonably confident that my stay at the Premier Inn Oldbury would mirror the excellent experience I had had before. Unfortunately it wasn't the case, I was looking forward to a nice clean, crisp and modern room with a comfortable bed instead I got dated deco, lose fixtures and fittings and mould spores on the bathroom ceiling. The room I got failed in compassion to the pictures advertised on the website. I booked a nights stay at this hotel, upon arrival I speedily checked in and whilst waiting in the reception area another guest enquired about adding dinner and breakfast to their reservation, at which point the receptionist informed them that dinner wouldn't be on offer that evening as the chief had called in sick. Upon hearing this, I explained that I had paid for dinner and breakfast in advance and that if dinner was no longer available that evening that I'd like a refund on the cost. I thought it was disappointing this information wasn't communicated when I checked in as the particulars of my booking would have been display when I was checked in. I was given two cards, one for access to my room and another for the room lights. The card for the room lights wasn't needed as there was no card switch in my room, just an ordinary on/off light switch (perhaps the room I stayed in hadn't been modernised yet). The room itself was very basic with a handful of sockets to one side of the room but none by the bedside which is where you'd expect one to charge your phone whilst you slept. Not much of a view outside other than the fence of the neighbouring property. The heating was a fairly simple set-up with an electric panel heater in the corner and an electronic wireless controller to the side of the bed. A communal electric heater sited outside my room would click on and off throughout the night in order to try to maintain the temperature which I found quite disruptive. The quality of finishing to the room was below par, the painting on the ceiling areas and silicone in the bathroom area was very poor. Although the bed weren't as good as the one I'd slept in at another Premier Inn, I did manage to have a good night's sleep at Oldbury. Breakfast was serve at a restaurant just across the way from the hotel, thank goodness it weren't raining otherwise I would have been soaked. The breakfast was average, I had thought it might be a buffet kind of set-up as it was meant to be unlimited breakfast however I was seated and a server took my order, it may very well have been unlimited breakfast but I thought a self-service buffet would have been more appropriate, I very much doubt guest would want to bother servers if they wished to top-up their plate and so would probably just make do with what was on their plate. Unfortunately I would not recommend this hotel to anyone else and would not stay here again.
