Hotel Madeleine

Returned to Scotland after an excellent week at the Madeleine, adults & teenagers. Beautiful cosy interior and great well thought-out rooms. Well looked after by owners and staff. Exceptional food and choice. Minutes from the chairlift and ski hire.

What a resort, great skiing and wonderful people and our stay at the Madeleine was one of the highlights. Lovely accommodation, facilities and sumptuous food. The staff were excellent and attentive and went above and beyond to make our stay really pleasurable. Magdalena was joy and helped us choose our food options, whilst Hotel Barman Alexander made sure our glass was never empty and just smiled all the time. During our week we met so many nice people and the atmosphere in the hotel made it conducive to start conversations with total strangers. I highly recommend both the resort and the hotel.

Without doubt the best ski hotel I have ever stayed in Micheal and Nadine run an amazing establishment, their attention to detail is astonishing. All their staff are so well trained and excellent at their job. The standard of the food, at every level, is amazing. I really hope to return before too long, Obergurgal has captured a piece of my heart

Just returned from a fantastic stay at this first rate hotel. We have been to Obergurgl several times and The Madeleine is definitely the best hotel we have stayed in. The location is perfect, only 3-4 minutes walk from the ski bus stop, ski hire shop and the slopes & lifts. Michael, Nadine and their team were friendly, attentive and really made our stay special. The food is excellent and was served by the wonderful Tereza whose service was outstanding. We shared a suite with our 19 year old son, which was spacious, well laid out and he had his own room and balcony. The Spa was a wonderful luxury at the end of a day on the piste. Our entire party of 8 had the most fabulous stay at The Madeleine and we will surely be back.

I stayed at the Hotel Madeleine with my two young daughters through Crystal Ski. I can’t fault the hotel at all. Perfect location - a few minutes walk to the two main lifts, ski school meeting points and ski depot. The bus stop for Soelden or Hochgurgl was also just moments away. The village Center was literally a stone’s throw away. We had a spacious room with a single sofa bed for my youngest and a king size with two single mattresses for me and my other daughter. Everything was spotless. Loads of storage. Brilliant shower. Overall very comfortable. Warm - so we slept with the window open - but that’s standard in alpine hotels. Various British TV channels which came in handy when I had to pack or wanted to use the sauna in peace. The food was wonderful. Excellent selection at breakfast and the dinners were varied and of top quality. They accommodated the girls with a decent children’s menu when they didn’t fancy what was on the main a la carte menu. The service was friendly and attentive. A special mention for Terezsa who served us all week - so kind and friendly. Michael (manager) was always around to make sure things ran smoothly and a minor issue we had with the shower head was fixed immediately. The spa area was great. The girls enjoyed the hot tub and the various saunas, infra red and steam rooms were clean and well maintained. An indoor pool would be the icing on the cake. A wonderful stay in a beautiful resort.

Just got back from a fabulous ski holidays. I never have a bad time when I’m skiing but this year was exceptional because of my stay at the Madeleine. Without a doubt for me this is the best hotel I’ve stayed in during the 25 years I have been going on ski holidays. The food in the hotel is fabulous particularly the fish dishes and the service is amazing. The hotel owners and their staff can’t do enough for you but they deliver this on a lovely and not stuffy atmosphere. I enjoy the nice things in life but I don’t enjoy the stuffy atmosphere that can often come along with it, I felt comfortable, welcome and pampered during the entire stay. The room we had could sleep up to 4, two adults and 2 children. It wasn’t massive but it had the most efficient storage I’ve ever seen in a room. The decor was lovely and because of the efficient storage didn’t feel cramped at all. After so many years skiing my husband and I have a lot of gear and we had an immense amount of space spare, even if we had a second child with us there still would have been room to spare. The ski hire shop is 2mins down the road, you can walk to the main gondola’s in less than 5 mins and you can get to the ski bus stop in 3 mins which will take you to Hochgurgl or Solden. For those more experienced skiers who may be off put by the Gurgl piste map you shouldn’t be. The blue runs in Hochgurgl that is linked by gondola to Obergurgl are vast long sweeping runs with challenging sections and your pass covers Solden as well which you can access by bus in around 25 mins. The skiing in Solden is vast and challenging and you can even go to a crazy house music mountain party over there. For those of you who prefer a more traditional apres if you have never been to the Nader Hutt in Obergurgl you haven’t lived. I’m lucky enough to have been 3 times and it just keeps getting better a truly gives you the full on Austrian experience where old and young party like crazy together, it is something every dedicated skier should experience once. What’s important to me nowadays is a quality hotel in a snow sure resort. The Madeleine and the height of the resort provide this and I couldn’t recommend it more. I know if you choose to go there the owners will make you very welcome and if there staff have moved on they will have replaced them with people of the same mentality to provide excellent service.
