Having stayed in this beautiful hotel twice a year for many years I was so disappointed with the quality of the food this visit. As I was alone I selected to eat at the buffet each night El Patio…. I like to eat early so I would be one of the first guests into the restaurant and every night the food was cold. The chef cooking the fish, langoustines, chicken , etc was waiting for guests to order then telling them it would be a 6-10 minute wait…. Why can’t they have precooked food and let the guests help themselves while the chefs cook more. The paella was totally cold on the second night, chips soggy and cold, salads dried up and pork absolutely dry! I have to say some of the cold starters were good, sushi one night was delicious. The breakfast in the buffet on my 2nd morning had run out of the chopped mixed fruit I was looking forward too and there no croissants left. Breakfast ends at 10.30 and I was there at 9.45…. This should NOT happen in a 5 star hotel! The fresh cooked omelette was good. I also asked twice for a teaspoon which never arrived so I had to help myself from another table, again not 5 star service. I hate to give this hotel a bad review as we have had wonderful times staying there but I really think the food in the buffet lets itself down badly when it could and should be amazing. I stayed in the TUI Blu Playa Barrosa for a few days with a group of golfers earlier in the week and even though the hotel was full with 500 guests the buffet for both breakfast and dinner was just fabulous. Hot plates, huge paellas bubbling away, fresh crispy chips being cooked all during service, amazing grill with food ready to eat… fabulous. Please take note Gran Melia it can be done.
