Iberostar Waves Herceg Novi - All Inclusive

It is an all inclusive hotel and they are not mean. The quality of food and drinks are better than expected. Worth the stay.

What an amazing place! Breathtaking views around every corner, a sensational crew looking after you, spotless, a dream! The price you pay for breathtaking views are steps - many many steps, slopes, hills, ramps, inclines. As others have said this is not the place for you if you have mobility issues, but then neither is Kotor bay full stop as it’s stunning precisely because it’s Europe’s southernmost fjord. We were in the furthest block, at the top of the hill - it was a challenge but if you’re reasonably mobile, doable. That’s the negative out of the way - everything else was pretty much faultless at this gorgeous hotel. We were a small family (mum, dad and nearly 6 year old) visiting at peak season in August. Our son had the absolute time of his life at Star Camp and we cannot praise and thank Kate and Yazi enough. The energy, kindness and enthusiasm they have is beyond compare. If you are reading this girls O still misses you and asks about you! There are 2 sessions each day, 10 - 12.15 and 2 - 4.30 (they have Saturdays off) Our son begged to attend every single one! Doing amazing activities like treasure hunts, learning Montenegrin, mini Olympics and a little mini disco usually on the beach stage, at 5. The sustainability ethos of the hotel is particularly strong in Star camp and it was a joy and a real bonus as we didn’t know beforehand about this aspect of the Iberostar brand. Whilst Kate and Yazi took good care of our son the adults got some much needed relaxation time - and some not so relaxing but fantastic times in the schedule of activities. Aqua aerobics, Pilates, holistic activities with the amazing Varya, and not to forget darts, shuffleboard, pool games with the boys entertainment team, Saria, Cen and Ruslan….and some of the most competitive holiday water polo of you’re life! Taking part is far from obligatory and there is no aggressive rounding up - they simply come round and invite you to take part but you don’t have to if you don’t want. We had such fun though when we did! complete escapism and some of us even won the t-shirt! (Iykyk) We especially loved the foam party and we were lucky to be there for the festival day! Drinks and food were fab - we were never stuck - Soft and alcoholic drinks both great, water stations everywhere - tip: Ruslan’s pina coladas at the beach bar are immense! Food wise we loved the plentiful seafood, pancakes at breakfast, charcuterie spread and oh my the blue cheese! Tip: the real juice at the far end at breakfast is best and it’s true the coffee machine by the bread is better for some reason. Think we benefited from being at peak season as there were themed food stations at the entrance most nights, including from memory, tacos, pasta in a giant wheel of cheese, more seafood, steak grills. We were there for 2 weeks so by the end, as with all AI it did get a bit repetitive but honestly the reviews that totally slate the food are unwarranted. We had a wonderful week here at the end of September just before the weather took a turn for the worse.I had upgraded to a superior sea view room and we were appointed a ground floor room in “Luna”block which was great for easy access to all facilities and encompassed a beautiful view of the bay.The all inclusive buffet was wholesome with self service drinks on tap,which were quite palatable to an avid wine drinker like myself.We both found the food to be excellent and not once did I find a struggle finding anything to eat and I’m a pescatarian.Evening entertainment consisted of a trip to the rooftop bar for a tipple or down to the beach club for a live act or on one occasion white night,which were both enjoyed.I know previous reviews have mentioned about the steps but we really didn’t have any problems encountering the hills but I do think if you suffer with mobility issues or are generally unfit it’s probably not wise to stay here.The one thing which stood out to me about this hotel is how they taking sustainability seriously as I saw very little food waste,recyclable cups are used and a carafe is provided in your room for water tops up by the dispenser at the end of the corridor.I also liked the fact that silly little things like sewing kits,shower caps or other useless things are not provided as they are not needed.A big shout out goes to the lady selling trips by the pool as she was full of useful information and ensured we were fully informed of the weather forecast and the trip contents,all of which were amazing,as was taking a trip over the bay by boat to Herceg Novi in the afternoon as the sun disappeared at 1500.Montenegro is a unspoilt authentic beautiful country and here was the perfect place to stay for us,friendly staff,great food and unspoilt scenery,we loved it!

The hotel looks great in the brochures but hides a few disappointing facts. The hotel is quite isolated but the views are delightful. There are taxis and boats to the town all at a cost. You do not get the perspective of the steep hillside it is on and there is no indication regarding the amount of steps you have to encounter. The next fact is that the sun disappears behind the hillside mid afternoon so if you are a sun worshipper you will be upset as you look across the bay and hercig novi and surrounding area is still bathed in sunshine and you are not. The staff are great and the restaurant has a decent selection which caters for most. The rooms are comfortable but make sure yoo ask for a walk in shower if you have any mobility issues. The shower over the bath requires a large step in/out. The only Tv channels in english are the news channels . Premium drinks at the bar are chargeable. This was my first iberostar hotel and I will try others thanks to the service I received but unfortunately don't return to this one. On a final note Montenegro is beautiful and is absolutely worth a visit.

Just got back from a lovely week in Montenegro and the iberostar herceg novi, we flew into tivat so a slightly longer transfer than flying into Dubrovnik, however if you're flying into tivat depending upon bus size be aware you'll have to change buses nearer the hotel as coach will not get to the hotel. Check in was smooth and the member of staff was really friendly, he noticed that my wife uses a walking aid and checked we were aware of the steps around the hotel, which having researched before booking we were, but to help us manage better he moved us to the Luna building which is the closest to all the facilities. Unfortunately the buggy wasn't in use that day but the porter handled the cases for us and took us the easy way to our room. The pool whilst cold at first was nice to get into to cool off, and the bar staff at the pool bar were lovely and got to know my order. I joined in with activities run by Can and Nicholas most days which were fun. The restaurant food was really nice and varied but I will be honest as the week went on with more people arriving it did get a bit samey but tbh we put this down to the fact the hotel was closing for the season the following week. Did a trip organised by petar boats which we booked with the lady at the top of the stairs down to the restaurant, this was really good and well organised and much better value than the one on offer from Jet2. Also used the taxi boat also run by petar boats to go across to the bay to visit herceg novi old town. Overall would definitely recommend this hotel, yes there are steps but the whole of Kotor bay is in a valley so steps are everywhere, as long as you take it easy you'll be fine.

Amazing hotel. Location and views were just spectacular. Not that hilly of a place as a lot of people are saying. All buildings are quite close, so there was no problem with that for us. Room was spotless. Water stations was a great idea. Food was really good and fresh everyday. Drinks were also good, they even had branded whiskey. Which you don’t get in Turkey sometimes. As vegans we rarely have a lot of choices for food, but this hotel was an exception. All day long we had so many options. We’re especially grateful to the chef Ilja, who made vegan pizza just for us, which were so delicious ☺️ It’s really nice that there was a few evenings for the dancing. I had a lot of fun. Highly recommend. Would definitely return, but we don’t go to the same place twice. Thank you so much. ☺️
