As an experienced traveler with extensive stays at hotels around the world, my recent experience at The Umrao in New Delhi was one of the most disappointing and alarming stays I’ve had. This property appears to have a "nickel and dime" approach, with an unfortunate disregard for their stated policies, leaving a lasting negative impression. The rooms’ furniture is visibly aged—about 15-20 years old—with no effort toward modernization or maintenance. Lacking standard amenities, the room felt more like a time capsule than a contemporary hotel experience. When I raised these issues with the Front Desk Manager, he was courteous and apologetic, but, unfortunately, no action was taken to address my concerns or improve the stay. One of the most concerning aspects was the unexplained charge of $20 per night per additional guest, despite the hotel’s own policy, as seen on their website, indicating no additional charge for up to two adults. I had mistakenly booked for single occupancy and was surprised to be charged an additional fee that contradicted the hotel's policy. Despite raising this with the General Manager and providing documentation, the issue was brushed aside. I’ve attached photos for reference that showcase the outdated furniture and the hotel’s lack of attention to its own policies and customer satisfaction. It’s disheartening to see a property operate with such disregard for transparency and hospitality standards. I would not recommend this hotel to fellow travelers and will not be returning in the future.
