The Limes Guest House

Awful stay. I walked out a day early. On arrival the owner was confused and disorganised. Kept confusing my booking with another solo traveller who had arrived the day before. Eventually found my booking on her "Comms". Kept going off on tangents and it was 45 mins before she finished showing me to my room. I found a jug or rancid milk in the switched off fridge when I went to put the small teapot of milk she had given me in it. The fridge smelt terrible but she did not offer to clean it. The disgusting jug of milk I had handed to her remained in reception for almost 24hrs. Breakfast is pre-order but on Saturday arrived an hour late, with incorrect items and was not properly cooked. I left the table without eating it. On the Sunday morning I was informed by fellow guests that there was no cooked breakfast as the owner had stayed out all night and wasn't back. They had been served tea and coffee by what I assumed was a waitress but was in fact a long term guest staying in the B and B with her family. She had returned to her room so there were no more hot drinks available. The front door had been left unlocked all night. I had a room on the ground floor and did not feel safe staying in the property having learned the door was left unlocked. The place is reasonably clean and bed was comfy. The owner apparently has no staff and is running the property single handedly but is clearly not capable of running it well.

Absolutely shocking place. Arrived at 3.30 no one in. Phoned 7 times phone switched off. A fellow guest let us in and the retrieved keys from back room and after trial and error using a no of keys ( some of which were already occupied) we found a room. Security nightmare. These keys had been handed in, in good faith and here was I being shown around their rooms in their absence, by a fellow guest. Turns out the proprietor was having a nap I the afternoon and switched off her phone. Got a knock on the door an hour later to tell me the owner was not feeling well. Room was cold and thoroughly depressing. The decor was at least 40 years old with lots of orange and brown and dark purple. Furniture had been retrieved from a skip and bed linen was the sort that was popular in East Germany circa Cold War era. The food was ok (sausages have never met a pig). Everything about this place smacks of neglect. The self indulgent owners have other things that are more important to them and you the paying customer just don’t figure. It is like going back in time when you enter this place. Hospitality is an alien concept.

It is a lovely guest house, in a perfect spot just minutes walk from the town centre. Jan the manager could not do more for you and offers an excellent breakfast. The rooms are well apointed with fridge, kettle tea and coffe making facilities and fresh milk rather than the cartons can be given on asking. You have your own bathroom and i have stayed in a single and a double. We took our dogs for a small extra cost which was lovely to be able to do. I've stayed in a few accomodations in Montrose and I think this is by far the most lovely and best value for money. It has on street and car park parking as well and just updated the internet so thats great. You can use the lounge as well and it is really peaceful sat there looking oout over the garden.

When I rang this place to book a room for my husband who was going in to hospital the following day, the woman on the phone was drunk. I then phoned the following day and there was no record of my booking. The woman I spoke to said it must have been her twin who I first spoke to. When my husband got there he had to wait 3 hours before he managed to contact one of them to check him in and give him a key. The woman who came was obviously the first woman I spoke to as she was clearly drunk. John went up to his room and found that none of the electric sockets were working. He went down stairs and when she eventually got off the phone he told her. She replied OK and then stumbled up the stairs to her bed. John walked out and found somewhere else to stay. I have never come across anything like this before, these twins have huge problems and should not be in the hospitality industry.

Elegant setting. Outstanding service. Very personable. It was a pleasant and comfortable setting. The owner was very accommodating and attentive. You feel like you are visiting a relative. Easy parking and each room has its own private bathroom. Breakfast was provided and they also offered directions and guidebooks to local attractions. Great place to hang your hat while visiting. Definitely would come back.

Stayed for three nights. Upon arriving we were greeted by our host karen. Karen was very welcoming and made you feel at home. The room was clean and comfortable. The location of the house is perfect for exploring being a 15 min walk to the beach and 5 min walk to the train station. I highly recommend this property.
