Sonder Penny Lane

Penny Lane is sweet! The location of this large, stylish studio is perfect in old town Montreal. Great historical ambiance with restaurants, bars, small shops, galleries, the harbour, and not too long a walk to the hop-on, hop-off bus meeting point. My only complaint is the reservation process of getting my ID downloaded - feels weird having to provide copy of my DL, but it is what it is. Very glad I persevered.

Great location, fantastic apartment. Had a wonderful stay and it was so great being able to buy a few groceries and take care of myself instead of constantly eating out. The location was a short walk to the old town and the central station which made getting around easy. My only feedback is regarding the lighting - the rooms - especially the bedrooms need a main light as the lamps just aren’t bright enough when packing bags etc.

Wonderful location close to many attractions. Walking distance to restaurants, underground mall right across the street and many main streets. Comfortable beds and spacious 3 bedroom unit on 7th floor with large balcony. No noise issues and well stocked kitchen. All questions easily answered in chat. We will stay here again.

We had a 3 bed apartment on the top floor. We had booked 4 other apartments for family members. We were very pleased with the location, easy and safe walk around downtown Montreal, train station and supermarket nearby. The apartment was clean. A nice gesture were a couple of dishwasher tabs and washing machine pods along with coffee and tea in our room. There were also replenishments available downstairs. A couple of minor maintenance issues like one or two light bulbs not working and some of the sockets, but too minor to even report. The apartment itself was very spacious, plenty of cupboard space and great kitchen facilities. We were really pleased to be staying here.

My husband and I spent four nights at this suite apartment. Room 303. There are many things we loved: *Room. A nice size with room to move around . Concrete clean floors, good a/c, good water pressure in shower, well stocked kitchen, washer and dryer, lighting, comfortable Queen bed, plenty of outlets for our devices. *Location. We could walk to many shops and restaurants. Close to subway, which was clean and very easy to use and got us to all the far-away places we wanted to visit. *Communication with Sonder reps. Communication was very good. They were very helpful and always replied to my questions, even if I did not get the answer I wanted. *SoundSpa and ear plugs in room Things we did not love: *Scaffolding directly outside our window. (Not disclosed) Not only did it block what little view we had, but workers were up against the window early in the morning. We had to keep shades closed if we happened to be in room when they were working, which made the room dark. We like light. *TV did not work. (This was disclosed). *Disco downstairs which started up late at night and did not close until after 2:30 am. We could not hear the music, but felt the bass reverberations (thump thump thump). Two of our four nights the disco was in action and was disruptive to sleep. * Potential Danger. Right inside the door, as you open to the room, there is a step. I almost fell several times. We made a habit of leaving hall light on as a reminder when we opened door to be careful. There is also a step in the hallway just outside the room. (Management, you should consider installing a small handrail or a plaque inside the room door to alert guests to the step) We would definitely return to this Sonder, if management could assure us we could have a equally nice room at the other end of the building, away from disco thumping. We easily walked from train station at 8:30 the night of our arrival. The key pad to enter the Sonder is in an alcove between two nice restaurants. Easy to miss, especially with all the scaffolding in front.

We really enjoyed staying at the Sonder Penny Lane. The location is amazing, right in the heart of the old town and an easy walk to grand central… we had a two bed apartment and it was brilliant… big living space.. beds were supremely comfy, kitchen was a good size, aircon and WiFi both good… overall couldn’t really afford any for more especially at this price…

The location was great. Easy to walk to the Old Town and the downtown shopping district. That’s the 4-star rating. The interior of the place needs a paint job and a good dusting. There were spiders in the corners, spiderwebs in the light fixtures above the table, and the curtains had cobwebs and little bugs/spiders in the folds. There was a fantastic deck with a patio table, but only one chair. We used the hide-a-bed. It was comfortable but loud when rolling over. The queen bed in the bedroom was firm but comfortable. Bathroom and kitchen were clean. It was easy to get into the building and room using the directions provided. Located in a quiet area, except for a bar in the next building, but the windows block most of the noise except for some major base. I wasn’t bothered by it.

The property was in an excellent location and well-equipped, offering a comfortable stay. However, the 24-hour chat service was a major disappointment—no one ever responded! I needed laundry detergent and reached out via chat and email, but never received a reply. Thankfully, it wasn’t an urgent issue, but the lack of assistance was very frustrating. The absence of customer support left a lot to be desired.

Really disappointing this time. I feel like the penny lane location has fallen into disrepair as everything is looking a bit tired and beaten up. The cleanliness was really poor too. There hair left in the bathroom, used soap left in the shower and mice in the hallway. The room is extremely loud at night and the curtains don’t completely block out the light. The bedding is I’ll fitting so the sheets constantly came off the mattress. I paid for a late checkout, but the combination to my room was changed without notice before checkout. It was resolved, but an added frustration to a disappointing stay.
