Casa Do Castello Monsanto

I enjoyed the stay here! It's very cute and my room had a nice balcony. The bathroom had a nice shower and the rooms had air con which is helpful when it's very hot. It was clean and cozy. Just a few tips for future guest. The place is in the heart of Monsanto meaning there is no parking around that area. You need to park elsewhere. My husband and I had suitcases and when we saw the are it was located we had grab a bag and grab what we needed for the night because it's difficult to drag suitcases up a hill in cobblestone. Also, AVOID Monday bookings because the entire town is close and there are no restaurants open. If you stay here on Monday you will need to have food or order from the B&B. Be aware the food in the B&B is quite steep (probably bc of the location). It was also not the best meal you will get in the trip to Portugal. Check in was hard. We knocked on the door with no answer and there is no doorbell. Lucky for us, we bought a sim card the night before and was able to call the owner. If we did not have a phone, I wouldn't have known what to do because most residence do not speak English. Make sure you communicate with the owner about the check in process a couple days before if you don't have a phone. Overall, a good stay. Hindsight we should have come to Monsanto on a different day. It's hard to plan because you don't know.

Monsanto is worth visiting but I'd stay outside village next time as there were No places to eat open on the week night we stayed. Accessing property also a hassle as owner didn't provide key code and wasn't on site after we trudged uphill from very scarce parking. Old house interesting but small room and double bed didn't feel like a king suite, and small verandah is north facing and cold in September. Owner also wants cash despite having ability to charge your card if you don't show.

1.) Zahlen Sie NUR per Kreditkarte oder Paypal und lassen Sie sich nicht mit einem "Quittung gibt es beim Check-out" abspeisen, denn dieser Herr ist nicht vertrauenswürdig und verweigerte uns die nach einer Nacht dort zustehende Stornorückzahlung für den Rest des Aufenthaltes! Über die Rechtmäßigkeit unserer Forderung haben wir eine bestätigende E-Mail des Veranstalters. 2.) Essen Sie nicht im zum Hotel gehörenden "Tasca do povo", um den Wirt zu unterstützen (Leider sahen wir die schlechten Bewertungen bei G. zu spät.). Sie erhalten dort abgestandenes, in der Mikrowelle aufgewärmtes, verdorben riechendes, lauwarmes Essen. Als wir für diese miese Qualität nicht zahlen wollten, wurden wir vom Wirt bedroht und beleidigt, was uns auch zur Abreise veranlasste. 3.) Als wir telefonisch auf Rückzahlung bestanden, bedrohte uns der Wirt massiv, so dass wir im Anschluss die Polizei riefen und um Geleitschutz baten. Als wir das Hotel verließen und auf Zahlung bestanden, versuchte der Wirt meinen Mann durch die Tür zu schubsen und unseren Koffer hinaus zu werfen. Eine Anzeige hierüber, sowie über die fehlende Rückzahlung liegt der örtlichen Polizei vor. 4.) Er beschuldigte uns per E-Mail beim Veranstalter nicht gezahlt zu haben, was wir aber anhand von Video + Audios widerlegen konnten. 5.) Die Hochglanzfotos entsprechen nicht der Realität. Die Stühle sind instabil und wackelig, die "Terassen"möbel haben Kindergröße und alles wirkt staubig und ungepflegt. Die Lage ist gut, aber die haben die anderen Hotels auch! 6.) Für das Frühstück hatten wir bei Buchung und kurz vor der Reise glutenfreies Brot bestellt, das prompt nicht geliefert wurde. Die Qualität und Menge des Frühstücks spotteten jeder Beschreibung (siehe Foto). Alle Fotos sind mit GPS-Daten aufgenommen worden und können einwandfrei zugeordnet werden.
