Lavendish Okrin Hotel

We had booked a safari at Yala national park and stayed here the night. This hotel is hardly 30 mins from Yala National Park. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. Food in general for vegetarians is OK OK, but heard the non veg spread was good. They packed us a breakfast box for the morning safari which was very helpful for us.

Nice place with a peaceful surrounding.The staff is friendly and helpful.We had delicious food and superb service from Ms.Anusha. Clean and comfortable Rooms.Room services are also really good. Looking forward to visit again. Thank you for the service!

This was definitely one of our best stayed Hotel in Lanka, from extremely friendly receptionist & staff to the detailed care and concerns of our well-being by Operation manager Mr Dilran It definitely made our Katargama trip even more meaningful! Kudos to the current managing team!

This was my fourth stay at Lavendish Okrin Hotel, but after this experience, it will unfortunately be my last. While I’ve had pleasant stays in the past, the deterioration in service and standards this time was deeply disappointing. Upon arrival, I encountered several issues: the room lock was malfunctioning, and the TV didn’t work. However, the most disheartening aspect was the condition of the room. It was not cleaned properly, and the balcony chairs were unusable, covered in bird droppings and dirt. The washrooms were poorly maintained. These oversights in cleanliness were concerning. However, what shocked me was the food. It was honestly terrible. By 7:45 am, the breakfast buffet was practically empty. Out of about 12 buffet trays, only 4 or 5 had any food left, and the rest were empty. There was no tea available, no tea cups for drinking, and no plates for eating. No one was refilling the water or the buffet items. The food that remained wasn’t even worth eating, and some of it was clearly old. A foreign couple arrived just as we were about to leave, and there was no food left for them. This not only reflects poorly on the hotel but also gives a bad impression of the country. Finally, I was shocked to find that the hotel attempted to add charges that were not agreed upon during booking. This unexpected and unwelcome surprise further diminished my trust in the hotel. It’s disappointing to see how much the standards have declined at Lavendish Okrin Hotel. I hope these issues are addressed so that future guests do not share this unfortunate experience.

It is sad to see that such a property is wasted by poor management and service. I sent my wife and kids along with my in-laws to this hotel, allowing them to worship at the Kirivehera and Katharagama Kovil. As it was a budget hotel, I did not expect it to be fancy, but basic needs and cleanliness should be met. My first experience with the hotel was that no one picked up the phone to confirm our arrival from the previous day. The person we contacted while booking the hotel was no longer there, so we were routed to a few phone numbers and finally managed to get hold of someone (the number on Google was also not answered). The first thing we noticed in our room was that the commode was not cleaned properly, even though it was taped as sanitized (please see the attached photos). Also, don't be misled by the meals you see in the photos on their website. For lunch, you get three or four options on the menu: fried rice, rice and curry, and sandwiches. Even the sandwich we got for the kids had chicken bones in it, and the portion was not sufficient. After my initial complaint regarding the bad experience we were going through, as well as the issues with the meals, management was generous enough to offer dinner at another hotel in their chain, which was good, and I thought that after this, everything would be in order. However, at breakfast this morning, when my wife moved the napkin on her plate, she was disappointed to find a half-cleaned plate with a hair on it (see the attached photo). The pool is also not clean, and I have attached a photo of it as well. The driver's quarters were not habitable at all, and we had to provide alternative arrangements for our driver. I advised my family to leave the property early, and they left just after breakfast, even though we were supposed to stay another few hours until our checkout. The experience was so bad that I regret my kids and in-laws had to go through this. I have made this complaint to the hotel management as well as their chain management. While I was in two minds about whether to post this review due to the nice gesture of the management offering dinner, I thought it was my responsibility to ensure others do not go through what we went through.
