I enjoyed my three nights at the Casa Amarilla. It’s a small hotel just a 30 second walk from Magdalena River. It is located in the old town at one end of the main strip of historic houses, churches and plazas on the river. The city is making a pedestrian area going the other direction, so when it is finished the hotel will be even better situated. The rooms are cozy and comfortable. The hotel was a private residence in its past life, but the current owner did a great job converting it to a hotel while maintaining a feeling of an intimacy. They have a private bath, air conditioning, and are cleaned daily. The Casa Amarilla is not a destination in itself. It is a comfortable place to sleep, have breakfast take a rest during the day, but if you expect a resort style stay, it is not for you. A tasty breakfast of fruit, eggs, arepa and bread with orange juice and coffee to drink is included. The clerks and housekeepers were so friendly and helpful. They would go out of their way to provide information, give recommendations and arrange excursions. They worked hard to make sure we had a great stay. (fyi to the best of my knowledge, the staff is not bilingual, so be prepared if you don’t speak Spanish.) I enjoyed my visit immensely and would stay at the Casa Amarilla again on a trip to Mompos.
