Viva Miches by Wyndham, a Trademark All Inclusive Resort

This is our third time down south and by far the best trip we have had to date. We are not fussy people and tend to enjoy the little things in life… sooo if your one of the people complaining then you probably should have booked a five star resort, that’s on you! The ocean was not crystal clear “ohhh no” and on top of that a fish nibbled my foot “ahhhh”. My goodness the things people complain about. I am not usually a beach guy. I love pools but this beach and ocean was great! The water was warm, tons of water toys to use and security on both ends of the beach if you need to feel safe. Yes a fish kissed my foot once in 7 days and my wife twice, don’t know why they choose her more then me must of liked her lotion better is all I can think of, but it is the ocean and that’s where fish live so keep your shorts on and relax folks. The water was not crystal clear so if you feel the need to be able to see your legs and toes while you swim best look for another resort. The beach was clean staff are walking around at all times picking up cups from you and making sure there is no garbage. Tons of chairs no issues at all finding a nice spot at anytime of the day, and lots of beach yoga, dancing, volleyball, and darts. The pool…. I am a pool guy so when we showed up and it was green for two days it was a little disappointing but during those two days they did not stop working on it, at least 6-10 people the entire time were testing the waters, draining the water, scrubbing the walls, refilling the water, adding chemicals and flushing the system. They worked extremely hard and if you watched you could tell how important it was to them to have it running for the guests. In general the pool is fairly small, narrow, and shallow so not the best if you’re looking to swim laps it’s more of a dunk yourself and float around pool. Very easy steps to get in and out though for anyone who may have trouble walking and there’s numerous sections to get out at. The bars could be better but again it’s not for a lack of trying. The pool/beach bar is so overwhelmed the three to four workers simply can’t keep up and that’s not fair to them. The resort needs!!!!! another bar either on the beach or a station where a cocktail of the day can be made to help lighten the load. The staff were running out of glasses. If you have a drink at the beach and your going up to get another maybe be a decent person and take your glass up with you so they can wash it. Then you won’t have to complain about not having glasses, also setting your glasses on the island in the middle of the pool doesn’t help either. People be expecting staff to wade out in the waters up to their waist and then keep working in wet clothes? The people complaining about not having the glass are the people leaving them behind and the more you leave behind the more time a staff member has to spend finding them all instead of making drinks which is also causing the long lineups. It’s a nice, smaller size resort with a lot of great entertainment. The pool is nice, the beach offers a long stretch of walking both ways. The sand is nice but very fine making water foggy. You can’t snorkel but swimming is great. There are a lot of activities happening at the beach and the pool, including fun games, Zumba, yoga, you name it, that staff work hard to create and entertain for all ages. Free of use paddle boards, kayaks, sailboats are amazing addition to stay active in the water. The food selection is good with lots of fish, different kind of meats. The entertainment in the evening is incredible with new themes daily, great shows and party that is also family-friendly. The bar service is slow but you get your drink eventually. It’s day 3 for us and we’re having a great time relaxing, enjoying long walks, swimming time and playing games.

This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic and it was underwhelming at best. We have traveled to many places in the Caribbean before and thought we would try a brand new resort to see how it could be. The group we travel with are pretty easy going and do not complain but this resort fell short in quite a few places. Our travels started bad due to mechanical issues with our flight which put us back one day. As soon as we knew we were going to be late we contacted the resort, and they told us to have our booking agent notify them of our late arrival. We did that and our booking agent said they couldn't get a hold of anyone but left 4 messages. We also contacted the resort again on our own and had them put a note in or booking to let them know. When we finally got to the resort a day late they informed us that they gave away our rooms because we did not contact them on the late arrival. We showed them the emails proving contact and after sitting in the lobby for 2 hours we were given rooms. My wife and I were upgraded to a plunge pool room, 1 friend was given the ocean view room he paid for, and the other 3 were given rooms with a garden view. They had to go back the next day to be moved to the ocean view rooms that they paid for. The plunge room sounded like a nice upgrade but it was in the back corner of the resort with no view of the ocean, and had a strong chemical smell from the recent construction. We ended up sleeping with the sliding door open each evening to help with the odor, but did not feel the most comfortable with an open door that anyone could walk up to while we slept since we were next to a path. Also the finishes of the room seemed very rushed and not as refined as you would expect from a nice resort. Our other problems with the resort was that the mosquitos are awful. It was our fault for not bringing bug spray but then when we went to purchase some from the gift shop the resort had it priced at $29 USD a can. The food in the buffet seemed prepared well before it was brought out and lukewarm. They did have fresh items of meats they would serve which was nice and their selection of fresh bread, cheese, and fruits was always very good. The last complaint we had was the sea water. We laughed reading reviews before we came about people complaining about the water, but after getting here you really lose the feeling of a Caribbean vacation when you don't have the beautiful turquoise waters and instead cloudy green water where your ankles are being bit by things you cannot see. There are positives of this resort though. Most all of the staff that we met were fantastic. We had a great time with the bartenders and they made great drinks.
