Albergo Il Vapore

We wanted to visit lake Como, and decided to base ourselves at Mennagio. This appeared to have great transport links for the ferries and bus, and after visiting we are happy we made the right choice. Albergo vampire hotel was available when we were choosing are hotel and we were hesitant because it was inexpensive and only had 1 star. Yet most of the TripAdvisor ratings were good, so we took our chance. When we arrived, we were met by Simone who along with his mother Pennatchia (sorry, if I have spelt your name wrong) run the hotel. Simone showed us to our 3rd floor room, which had a lovely view of the courtyard and the lake. Our room was comfortable, clean and a nice size. We had full length windows to the front and windows to the side which was nice to get the breeze! The shower was hot and reasonably powerful, except on one occasion it stopped, but then It started again a couple of minutes later(perhaps many people were having showers at the same time.) There are no gels/ shampoos provided, so bring your own. Although there is soap in the sink. You get large and small white towels each and these are changed daily as needed. There is a hairdryer in each room. We had 2 single beds that were made up as a double, and we found it very peaceful and slept well throughout our stay. The restaurant provides breakfast in the morning, however we never ate breakfast. However, we did eat there on 3 occasions in the evening. I found the home made lasagne was excellent and the pick of my meals! The pinot grigio wine at €20 was good too! The mum Pennatchia is the only waitress and Simone is the cook along with one other. Personally, I think she works too hard and could benefit with some help. However, she copes well and always has a smile on her face and is a warm welcoming person. Overall, the hotel and restaurant are great value in an expensive part of the world and I wouldn't hesitate in returning if visiting Lake Como again.

This place is one of Menaggio’s hidden gems! Like most people we decided to take a gamble as on *********** it has one star, but the reviews and trip advisor reviews were quite good. We weren’t disappointed and will 100% be returning! I don’t know how these stars work, but they definitely deserve more!! For was is known for a really expensive holiday destination, Menaggio and this hotel is great value for money especially if you want to do lake como on a budget. We paid extra for a room with a view of the lake and the balcony however our stay for 4 nights was only £314/360€. We were lucky enough to eat at the restaurant (it was booked out every night) and a bread basket, two main meals and 4 glasses of Prosecco was under 40€!!!!! The hotel is in a great location, and is run by a lady and her son. The lady runs the hotel and the restaurant and her son cooks AMAZING homemade food! She is incredibly friendly and welcoming. Our room didn’t have aircon, but we had a fan that seemed to do the job! It was very clean and has USB ports on either side of the bed (which was very useful if you forgot your converter). We were so sad to leave, and I’m counting down the days till we can return! Thank you so much for an amazing stay 🇮🇹🌊

Perfect. Location was ideal. Hostess was amazing so welcoming helpful and friendly. A pleasure to chat to everyday. Looks after guests like family. Spotlessly clean beautiful authentic stay. Will 100% return to this stunning hotel. Debbie Millar May 2024

We had an exceptional meal at this restaurant. The outdoor seating felt as though we were in an arbor, as we sat beneath intertwined branches of two trees. An awning provided additional shade. The menu had descriptions of its offerings in Italian, German, French and English, so they obviously serve diverse clientele. One person waited on all the tables. While the service wasn't fast, we were in no hurry, nor were any of the other diners we observed. The food, however, was fantastic. I had a sage ravioli, that was advertised as freshly-made on site and tasted like it. It was a wonderful combination of flavors and an absolute delight. We were fortunate to find this place, as it's slightly off from the main square of Menaggio. Look for it; you will be glad you did.

It was so clean and the owners are so kind, friendly, helpful. The location is perfect. Everything is nearby. The dinner was delicious and the breakfast was simple but good enough. We spent there 3 nights. And we would like to go back any time.

We stayed in Il Vapore for five nights and it was blissful. Pinuccia and Simone are warm and welcoming and they run a lovely hotel and restaurant. The room was spotlessly clean with a balcony and beautiful lake view. The location could not be more convenient and central. We had no problem with noise since there is no passing traffic – just conversation, which is quite soothing. The wifi was good and, when the temperature dropped in the evenings, the heating was welcome and effective. We hired a bike and Pinuccia stored it safely for us overnight and provided a strong chain for us to keep it outside if we needed to during the day. We will certainly return!

Endroit superbe personne très très accueillante et professionnel très bon restaurant rapport qualité prix mais devrait prévoir la climatisation dans les chambres pour un confort supplémentaires à part cela rien d autre à dire mais un ventilateur est disponible

Avis ne concernant que le restaurant Très bon dîner sur la petite terrasse ombragée par une belle glycine. Bons produits (mets et vins) pour un budget maîtrisé et un service attentionné Avec une mention spéciale aux spaghetti salsa del diavolo !

Très bon accueil, établissement idéalement placé : au bord du lac et à proximité des rues les plus vivantes du village. Chambre avec balcon et vue sur le lac. Le seul inconvénient est que ce n'est pas suffisamment insonorisé : on entend les personnes qui marchent à l'étage supérieur.
