Sheriff Lodge

A very unfriendly arrival. Left to switch on lights in dining room/sitting area . No soap in containers,in shower room. Breakfast was abysmal,2slices of sliced cheese, poor quality ham slices,out of date cereal, single portion dish of jam, under cooked croissant raw in the middle, raspberries and blueberries were nice.no cooked breakfast. Rooms were a saving grace.

My wife and I stayed for 2 nights at the beginning of December in the Warren room and it was so comfortable! Ziz was the perfect host, what a lovely place the Sheriff Lodge is, close to town and 5 mins from a lovely nearby pub for an evening meal. The breakfast was amazing with so much choice, the homemade granola topped with fruit was the best! Overall a wonderful place to stay and we will return in the summer. My mum and I just got back from a lovely two night stay at Sheriff Lodge. Ziz, the owner was incredibly helpful from start to finish. She helped us find a lovely place to eat on our first night and made sure everything was perfect for our arrival. The house is beautiful and has lots of character and the room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was delicious with home made cereals, fresh baked pastries, hams and cheeses etc. Its only a 5 minute walk from the town so great for going out in the evening for dinner and drinks. We loved our stay and would return in a heart beat.

A gem of a bed and breakfast. Very friendly and pleasant host in a well-run and atmospheric little place. Handy for all the beauty and history of Derbyshire Peak District. The breakfasts are sensational and showcase local produce. Ziz is a real professional at running a B&B and it shows. I recommend you listen to her guidance on what to see and where to dine. Haddon Hall and Thailand No.1 are great and real highlights of our stay. Final bonus was Sheriff Lodge has electric car charging, fairly priced, so no range anxiety during our tours. Derbyshire is breathtakingly lovely - I think it might be the most beautiful county in England. To see it you cannot do better than a stay with Ziz at Sheriff Lodge in Matlock.

Just had a lovely three night stay at Sheriff Lodge which started with a welcome pot of tea and cake. We stayed in The Mousehole which was extremely comfortable and very clean with an enormous bed! The breakfast was delicious and the sitting area is a lovely space to sit and relax. The hotel is very well situated with just a short walk into the centre of Matlock. Will definitely return when in the area again.

We visited Sheriff Lodge for a 2 night stay for my birthday. We were a little early and were able to park our car in one of the spaces provided and walk into the town centre, which is about 10 minutes walk. One thing that I must point out though is that the B&B is up a hill, it was not difficult but just to bear in mind if you have mobility issues. You could always get a taxi. We booked in later and Ziz was very helpful in giving us recommendations of where to eat. We took these on board and had 2 very nice meals, especially the Thai which was delicious. The Mousehole room was lovely and had a bay window looking at the front of the property. The bed was lovely and big and comfy with a lovely big fluffy quilt. There was plenty of wardrobe and drawers space too. The bathroom was a good size with underfloor heating and a walk in shower. The shower was also very good, which is a nice change from some I have used in the past in hotels. There were plenty of towels and bathmats and even a cloth for removing make up, which would have been good, had I not had my own. The breakfast was extremely good with juice, cereal etc and also a good choice of cooked breakfast. The homemade bread was delicious. We thoroughly enjoyed our break, short as it was and would visit again if we were in the area.
