This is the 4th time we've stayed here and the experience this time was not as it has been in other times. The room had only 8" between the wooden bed, the wooden standing closet, the wooden chest and the wall. To get from the bed to the bathroom was like threading a needle. And the room is called a Marvelous (Merveilleuse Chambre) Room! I asked if we could change, because there are gorgeous rooms in this property, several of which we've stayed in, but they said it wasn't possible. It was fully booked. So be careful, the wonderful rooms are wonderful but the marvelous rooms - not so much. And at $600/night it's worth finding out not only how many sq ft the room has, but it's design. I think also because they were understaffed for the volume of guests, the staff were overworked. One morning, in the breakfast room, there were 2 tables of 4, and 3 tables of 2, all beings cared for by one gentleman. Because they want to give excellent service, you cannot pour your own coffee, or water, or anything. They want to serve you. But with such a short staff it was making everyone in the breakfast room crazy - trying to ask for coffee, milk, whatever and meanwhile other guests were trying to order their breakfast. The food at the Villa is exquisite! And dinner is a magical experience. But both times on this trip they said they were fully booked and could not accommodate their guests. Which seemed very odd. When I asked why we could not get dinner reservations they managed to fit us in. But it seemed like they were experiencing a staffing or booking or management problem that no one could explain. Use care booking your rooms at the Villa des O, if you want dinner, book it before you leave, and try to find the outside, or the breakfast rooms that have more staff to help.
