I chose the Shade Hotel based on Google reviews and I'm so glad that I found this hotel. Sara helped me settle in on my first day and she was helpful and kind (thank you!). The frosé was a bonus welcome gift and needs to be added to the restaurant menu (a girl can dream). The room was exactly as pictured on the site and everything was clean. Loved the variety of options in the mini bar and for snacks in the room. The food at zinc was top-notch and so so good. My friend and I had dinner on the first night and I continued to go back because it is that good. I didn't have a chance to ride a bike but hope to do that during my next visit. Location can't be beat, as the hotel is within walking distance to the beach, loads of restaurants, shopping and a great coffee shop, goodboybob coffee roasters, right around the corner.

Worst hotel experience I have had in a WHILE. Felt like we were in a motel 6 with how much noise there was, walls are very poorly insulated. We were on the first floor off the courtyard, lots of loud talking at 11pm, sounded like someone was dragging furniture around above us, and could hear every car driving past. I asked the front desk for earplugs and could STILL hear the noise. Finally doubled up pillows around my head and was able to sleep. I also asked them to make up the pull out bed when they called to confirm my check in and when I arrived at 8pm the bed was not prepared so we had to wait while an attendant came with linens. When asked about the gym they said they partnered with Equinox across the street. Their version of across the street is a 9 minute drive away. Not a luxury experience in the slightest.

The good. Great location. Great staff. Relatively nice rooms albeit they are not cheap as we stayed there for several nights. The bad. $29 with tip for 2 double espressos. After that, walked each morning down the street to Starbucks where the same costed $8 with tip and brought them back to my room. So dumb. Broken mirror in my room even though room was newly remodelled. Hotel gives you $10 vouchers per day of stay to use in their restaurant that I kept forgetting to bring. Why not credit on my bill at checkout rather than asking me to walk around with coupons? Booked the room online with a travel CC that incurs less overseas fees but when I checked out they would not charge that card that they clearly had on file. They required a physical card even though I had my travel card on my Apple pay and their payment machine clearly showed they took Apple pay. Their T&C make no mention that you can only pay with a physical card and I really don't carry a lot of physical CCs anymore, so that just made an already expensive stay even more expensive.

such a lovely hotel! staff if super friendly and helpful. we ate at zinc and the food was amazing. especially love that they have gluten free options. also walking distance to the beach which we loved! only thing i wish was different was the bed. i prefer a softer matress and the one in our room was firm. no where near a deal breaker, just my preference

My son and I spent 3 days at the Shade during our California trip. It is a beautiful small hotel, ideally located near the Manhattan Beach Pier and other lovely surroundings. We loved the breakfast at the integrated Zinc restaurant. It is not included but they offer daily vouchers that slightly reduce the price. The staff is fantastic - very friendly and responsive (a big "Thanks" to Rodolfo!). I enjoyed the welcome drink and the wine tasting at the pool. However, the pool water was unfortunately too hot for a warm summer day. As a European, the so-called Amenity fees ($35/day) came as a surprise (those "hidden" fees are illegal in the EU - while quite common in CA). I would recommend MB & the Shade Hotel for couples seeking a romantic getaway. Hope to be back some day...

The manager Marissa Sanchez and the whole staff was very accommodating. Sara Pacheco printed out some business documents for me right away which was paramount for my meetings. The room was beautiful and I felt taken care of. I had to Fedex some boxes to the hotel and the staff brought them up to my room before I got there. We will definitely be coming back to conduct our business with you again.

Beautiful hotel; staff was friendly and courteous. The food in the restaurant was also really good. The main reason for my rating is that there is no gym onsite - while they include access to a gym nearby, it's 2 miles away. The bigger issue is internet. I couldn't even load a news app on my phone - and streaming movies was definitely not in the cards. While I'm sure there's not much that can be done about the gym, I'd definitely recommend upgrading the hotel's wifi to the owners. But location can't be beat!

I was not impressed that it was $45 for valet + $350 hold + the hotel room expensive rate. They still have not released the $350 hold on my account and my husband tried to purchase the room beforehand for me and my daughter, they charged his card 2 days beforehand but still charged mine because I didn't have his card? It was not worth it.

Room was not clean. Loud music on a Monday night played until 1am and could be heard and felt in hotel room. 30 plus minutes to get car from valet. Nice but unhelpful staff. I ama frequent business traveler to the area and was the hotel was recommended by locals. . First and last time stay.
