We visited Whatley Manor on a Sunday night for a last minute getaway. The hotel is very well furnished and has beautiful gardens and common rooms which would certainly warrant with a 5-star review. The two Michelin-star restaurant 'The Dining Room' was truly excellent food and well worth going our of your way to visit (if you enjoy the French-style long and luxerious dinner. As there are so many reviews on here pointing out excellent things, so I will point out a couple of things that let the hotel down: The hotel rooms themselves were a little disappointing. We were offered a free upgrade to "Superior", and the room was pleasant with a large bed, but I have certainly stayed in nicer, grander rooms in similar quality hotels. Take, for example, the television. It was an old model - not a flatscreen - which was obviously state-of-the-art 10 years ago when the hotel was opened, but given how technology has moved on, I would have expected this to have been updated. You may well ask why we would go away to watch television (it was Wimbledon Men's final day) - so perhaps this isn't a big point, but I think it is indicative of the hotel just feeling like it could do with a spruce up after being open for 10 years. The spa was lovely and well-appointed. There were a couple of things that let it down. On the first day, one of the steam rooms was not working, and one of the two "feature" showers was not working. Again, this is not a big point, but when you pay as much as you do to stay somewhere like Whatley Manor, you expect perfection. On the second day, there was construction taking place on the patio outside the spa. This was noisy and disruptive, and, had we been staying that day, I think would have seriously taken away from the enjoyment of the hotel. Of course they need to maintain the spa, but again, I think they could do with shutting the hotel for a couple of weeks in an upcoming off-season and giving it a good refurb, rather than disturbing guests
