Paid extra for the larger bedroom with a big balcony. Hotel was very dated and has apparently been sold and is closing for refurbishment. The room upgrade was ok, nothing special. The balcony area was the reason I’d upgraded. The balcony was large with sun beds and furniture. Not very aesthetically pleasing as it was old and dated. The problem was the nesting pigeons which were all over the balcony. There was pigeon poo on the furniture, the floor, the windows and on my beach towel that was drying outside. I narrowly avoided being pooed on. As a result, the balcony was not a pleasant experience and was a waste of money as I was put off using it. I complained to the hotel but nothing was done and apparently my complaint wasn’t passed to management. Sat around the pool at about 3pm day 2. Phoned down to reception for a bar drink. I was told the bar was closed. Signage and website said the bar closes at 6.30 pm. Well, that’s not true, they close it at 3pm. This was really inconvenient because I couldn’t enjoy the last of the sun around the pool with a drink. Had to get dressed and go out. Not what you expect in a 4 star hotel. The hotel was covered in unsightly rope and netting which was either to deter the pigeon infestation or in preparation for closing down. Jet2 weren’t interested in my complaint and said no other customers were unhappy. The other customers hadn’t paid extra for a lovely big balcony and received a balcony full of pigeon poo Staff were very nice and the breakfasts were lovely.
