Booked 2 nights through Airbnb. Arrived at property and just like many other reviewers, felt things were not right when we first arrived! The hallway and stairs were dark, dingy and dirty. Shown our room on the first floor, much much smaller than the photo suggests. Small double bed against window with a wonky shelf above it. The fan on the shelf had dust all in it, the ceiling light was caked in dust, the window opened on a tiny shared terrace with next door room with cigarette butts strewn over it. Despite the small fan, the room was very warm and felt quite claustrophobic. I’m also asthmatic so was put off by the dust. You couldn’t even sit on the toilet properly and there was bottles of shower gel and shampoo left in the shower cubicle by previous guests. I just didn’t feel comfortable. We decided to leave and contacted Airbnb (who weren’t any help). The actual host wasn’t there so I spoke to the man on reception who was pleasant enough and did apologise, he also said I would be refunded and had I received it! Then the host rang me. He was on the verge of being arrogant and insulting. When I went through my concerns, he mocked me about the security of the terrace, he told me I had exaggerated the dust in the fan. He said he wouldn’t be cleaning the light as it’s too high up and it’s not affecting your stay. I also told him the TV kept breaking up to which he questioned my ability work it. I said I felt uncomfortable and unsafe staying there. Half an hour later he got his reception employee to take photos of the working TV, and miraculously a standing fan and the previous fan removed! By then and after the way he talked to me on the phone, it was too late. I will try to claim for a refund of any sort but proving extremely difficult through Airbnb. For the price of a 2 night stay, the standard does not correlate and I’ve stayed in much cleaner and a lot nicer places in London. Don’t waste your money!
