Tafarn Y Rhos

Great home cooked food. There simply isn’t anywhere locally that rivals the quality of food and value for money of Tafarn Y Rhos. The burgers are great and homemade chips are next level. Good portion sizes too. Great selection of beers and ales.

I simply ordered fish and chips at lunch time. The fish was not fully cooked, the batter was both soft and crunchy in different areas, the mushy peas were a solid mass within the pot they were served in. The staff were helpful and friendly, but the food was terrible.

Lets start with the good points. The food in the bar and breakfast is excellent. Service was also good. Now the bad poins. The temperature outside was minus 4 C, and the room had no heating. Actually, it does have a 'booster' system, whereby you press a button and the heat comes on for about 15 - 25 minutes, then goes off. If more heat is required, the button needs to be pressed again. I asked about this heating and was told there's nothing the management can do as I had already paid. It was the coldest hotel room I've ever stayed in! No way could I get up every few minutes to get some heat! The bathroom had no heat whatsoever! I asked for help, but nothing was offered. I was told the heating system was 'inherited' when the hotel was purchased. I suspect in the summer, there would be no problem. I asked the hotel for a refund of the room fee for one night as compensation, but received no reply. Bottom line, management should look at the heating arrangments, and at least offer a portable heater!

A lovely place to stay, people very friendly, room very clean. The breakfast was fantastic, the bacon thick and delicious but I had to order less on the 2nd morning as I couldn't eat it all on the first morning. Would definitely recommend to others

Very poor customer service. The attitude of the staff was so disappointing. Such a shame that so many young staff with no experience. No sign of any management to respond to concerns. Food was nice and good value for money. They need to try harder if they want people to return.

Quick service, friendly. Home cooked food. I had the lamb shank with mash and peas, husband had the steak pie, although it was t a fully encased pie - it was just a puff pastry lid. We both really enjoyed the food though. A pub with a nice atmosphere and comfortable seating. Busy place!
