Home Lisbon Hostel

I stayed at Home Lisbon last week and had an amazing time. It was my first time solo travelling and I couldn't have been happier with my stay. The staff are so helpful and have great advice on what to do/see in Lisbon. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable, although I found the top bunk bed a bit difficult to get up to but that's just a me problem! The location is absolutely perfect and close to all public transport, even the airport which was great. The atmosphere in the hostel was also really sociable and warm, it was very easy to get chatting to people. There is also space to work and study which I found really useful as a student. I would recommend Home Lisbon to anyone travelling to Lisbon, especially if you are a solo traveller!

I stayed here with two other friends from Mar 23 to Mar 27 2025. My phone was stolen within the first 10 minutes I got to this hostel, which is unfortunate because I really enjoyed my time here otherwise. The downside to this hostel is that the security getting in and out is very lax. All residents have to do is press a buzzer and they will immediately let you up. There is no camera at the front door outside the hostel (only the inside) so they actually have no way of figuring out who is actually a guest before they are let into the building. Unfortunately for me the night we arrived, there was someone who was not a guest at the hostel in the reception/common area. I left my phone on the registration desk for 10 minutes and unfortunately after checking their footage, we saw this person steal it. Despite the security cameras they have, the presence of cameras will not deter thieves or people who are not supposed to be there from stealing things. Other than help me report this incident to the local police, the management did not really offer any compensation for what happened. Just wanted to write this as a warning to other guests, it is not the most secure and safe hostel as it is purported to be. Be aware of your surroundings at all times. The people and staff are very friendly and the hostel is very social and talkative, so overall you will have a good time, but my experience was truly soured by the fact that my phone was stolen here.

I booked a stay at Good Morning Lisbon Hostel from the 5th to the 10th, but after a poor experience, I decided to leave early. When I requested a refund for the unused nights (which should be three nights), the staff made the process unnecessarily difficult. • When I first inquired about a refund on the morning of the 6th, I was told I might only get one to two nights refunded, even though I was clearly leaving early. • The front desk claimed that because I paid in cash, they might not be able to refund me in cash, and that I’d have to receive it through PayPal—which makes no sense. • The staff had to call the manager, who was on vacation, meaning I had to wait hours just to get a basic response. • The food quality was subpar, with overly salty and unbalanced flavors. • Many of the travelers were openly hostile, creating an uncomfortable atmosphere rather than the welcoming vibe a hostel should have. If you’re considering this hostel, be aware that refunds are difficult to process, the food is mediocre, and the social environment isn’t as friendly as advertised. Overall, great place! I would totally stay here again. BUT I would also check that the hot water in the shower works. They probably have it fixed by now (we were there early Nov 2024). Pros: great staff, great breakfast, great room with balcony, steady/good wifi, great location. I really liked this place. I would have given it 5/5 except for the no hot water in the shower situation.

The whole vibe of this hostel is great- they are very welcoming and it’s very community oriented. Everyone is super friendly and says hello in the hallway. I recommend getting in to Mamas dinner on your first night- as it gets you talking to people which is great. The food is good- 3 courses and cheap too with unlimited alcohol or soft drink. The bar crawl wasn’t really for me- I expected a few relaxed bars and then some clubs later on but they jump straight into clubbing and I was far too sober for that! The electricity went out in my room on my second day so I had a dead phone in the morning and had to sit in the hostel for hours charging it in the communal room- I wasn’t very happy because it meant I missed out on time in the city. There was also building work going on- this upset me a lot. Nobody warned me of this and the hostel certainly wasn’t cheaper because of it. I got woken up every morning at 7am by hammering and drilling right outside my room. That being said, most people are very respectful of privacy and quiet when they come into the bedroom which was nice. The hostel is close to the town and they do a great walking tour for free (donations required however) (although it’s very long too, about 3 and a half hours). There are also lots of stairs. It’s not wheelchair accessible due to there being stairs to get to the lift. Overall, I would say it was a great hostel but let down for me over the electricity and building work. I would stay again, however, for all the good points and safety of the place- provided the building work wasn’t going on.
