Vanuatu is at that difficult stage where it charges first world prices, but has Third World facilities and the savvy Traveller should be aware of that. The resort had badly stained toilets and bathrooms. The bedsheets were extremely old, as in more than 30 years old. And the pillows were disgusting. I explained to the owners that they need to buy new pillows and new sheets every two years and throw the old ones away, bit by bit, or the resort will get fewer and fewer stars from travellers. Service was friendly but not attentive. We all have wheels on our suitcases and the pathways to the huts are gravel so we had to drag our suitcases to the huts. It would’ve been better if staff had managed this for us. The food was changeable. The fried fish one night was totally inedible. Even the cats wouldn’t eat it when we gave it to them and most of us passed on the dinner that was served. The second night, the dinner was much better! Breakfast was the same inedible eggs with nice fresh, home-made bread, The following night the dinner was good. So like I said, changeable, but expensive.
