City Hotel Nieuw Minerva Leiden

Die Lage direkt an einer Gracht ist sehr gut, Frühstück ist sehr gut ! Leider ist der Zugang zu den Zimmern etwas mühsam, Fahrstuhl und das Gepäck muss über die Treppe auf die 1. oder 2. Etage geschleppt werden. Ansonsten war alles OK.

I was visiting a friend who lives across the canal so this hotel was ideal. Plus its situated at a lovely dividing point in the canals with restaurants nearby. Include breakfast in their comfortable dining area. The staff were very helpful since I was on the 3rd floor. My mistake asking for 2nd floor, forgetting the "ground floor" is our first floor in the U.S. The staff delivered my two pieces of luggage to my room upon arriving and I had them bring them down upon my check out. Important when you are old!

We stayed in this hotel for a week. Our room was spacious and comfortable. The breakfasts are very good with a large variety of choices. Our room looked out on the canal and we enjoyed watching the action on the water and the street. Very convenient location to explore the old part of Leiden. All within easy walking distance.

I’ll start with the positives the hotel wise excellently located, the beds were surprisingly comfy and the ground floor reception is nicely decorated. Unfortunately the negatives far outweigh the positive. We booked a luxury double room, on arrival we were given room 19. Essentially this is a forgotten attic room. The decor is dull dated & worn. Twin beds not even a headboard just two grotty scatter cushions. The bathroom sink was cracked and there was an over bath shower that was cramped and poor water pressure. After I complained they moved us to room 2 for the remainder of the stay. This is a first floor front room. This is the blue striped room from the photos it looked quirky, in reality it’s grotty, dated and poorly executed. Huge bed, big enough for 3 adults, with 2 pillows. No sound insulation between the room above when the guests in the room above moved the whole room shook. There are three large single glazed overlooking the canal unfortunately this meant we could hear noise from the street & bars etc. There is an over bath shower the fitting is broken so cannot be adjusted & the shower head kept falling down. The sink plug was blocked with dirt. We paid for the breakfast and regretted doing so- it’s basic & the fruit juice tasted watered down! We wish we’d gone out for it. The staff were surley. I had to arrange with the housekeeper to move rooms, it was too difficult for the receptionist. I appreciate this is a very old building but there was no excuse for the condition. I would recommend you stay elsewhere.

The hotel is beside one of the main canals & is just a short walk to the main area. The reception & bar area is lovely. We had a nice room at the front of the hotel, very spacious. The only let down was the breakfast & in particular the eggs, both the scrambled & boiled were near enough cold. The scrambled also was literally down to the scrapings & wasn't refilled. All in all though we had a great stay.

Er valt van alles op te merken over het hotel. Wij vonden de ligging perfect, de medewerkers heel erg vriendelijk en voorkomend, het ontbijt meer dan toereikend en de kamer biedt wat je nodig hebt. Niet de luxe standaard hotel inrichting, maar stil, schoon en donker. We hadden cafebezoek en uit eten ( alles beloopbaar) en kregen een warmtekussen mee. De balie is dag en nacht bemand. Het ontbijt was prima, de bagage kon opgeslagen worden en we liepen naar het museum van onze keuze. Van en naar het hotel is een gratis pendeldienst naar de parkeerplaats, een geweldige service. Ook een parkeerkaart tegen gereduceerd tarief in het hotel. We hebben zeer genoten.

Eenpersoonskamer geboekt omdat ik naar voorstelling Jochem Meyer ging. Toen ik de kamerdeur opendeed schrok ik wel. Ik vond de kamer erg klein, oud en best gedateerd. Vloerbedekking was ook verouderd. Bed was klein en dekbedovertrek ging snel los. Kamer was ook koud en in het raam zit een barst. Badkamer: douche straal is wat zwak, wc liep te lang door, en 1 handdoek was niet schoon die hing aan het rekje. Opzich is het hotel prima ook qua ligging maar ik ga geen eenpersoonskamer meer nemen. Ontbijt was prima. Maar alle jam was op. Een verbeterpunt zou zijn om ook bacon te serveren bij het ontbijt.

Ik wilde gaan reserveren bij dit hotel, totdat... de recensies van het hotel niet goed bleken te zijn, maar ook de reacties op die recensies niet waren zoals je mag verwachten. Geen excuus, het ligt altijd aan de gast... maar laten ze eerst zorgen dat alles in orde is. Kamers die naar urine ruiken en gaten in het beddengoed... ondanks dat de kamer waar die persoon naar vroeg misschien niet beschikbaar was, mag je verwachten dat alles kamers perfect zijn... toch?

Leiden is leuk! Heel leuk, de locatie van het hotel ook, maar de rest is dramatisch slecht. Vies, de kleine badkamer stinkend naar urine, de matrassen ook. Bij mij lag er een jersey onderlaken met gaten en vieze gele grote vlekken onder het matras, deze gelijk verwijderd en aan de receptie gegeven. De matrassen stonken ook naar oude urine, de kussens waren ook zwaar vervuild, geel met klonten als vulling. Gelukkig neem ik altijd mijn eigen kussen mee. Check aub de bedden mocht u toch willen inchecken. Wij hadden klassieke kamer no 26, welke de helft kleiner is dan op hun brochure foto. De hele nacht jeuk gehad, de ventilator was goed en hielp een beetje. De douche gaf alleen maar koud water en het ontbijt was zéér sober in een zeer sobere ruimte. Locatie dus goed, maar hotel slecht en weinig behulpzaam. Het jonge meisje achter de receptie wilde wel helpen maar die oudere mevrouw echt niet. Ik heb vele foto's maar kan ze hier niet plaatsen zo lijkt? Google heeft mijn review ook, daar staan ze wel bij.
