1) Ferry timings
The evening ferry was delayed for 30min. We were not told of the change in ferry timing at check in, not available on the website (which we used to refer to the timings and plan our schedule), and no physical notice anywhere. We ended up rushing back to the terminal with our takeaway dinner, thinking we can catch the ferry and eat dinner by the beach, only to wait > 30min. The staff clearly saw us and other people waiting and didn’t inform us about the delayed time until we went to ask them ourselves. No explanation about why the timing was changed until we later went to ask the concierge who informed that it’s for staff to break fast. That is nice for staff but at least inform your guests about changes in ferry timing first or put up notice.
The infrequent ferry timings and operation being subject to bad weather and full capacity was highly inconvenient. One missed ferry means we have to wait 1h+ for the next ferry, no offer to make up with another ferry ASAP. As the ferry is the only way to mainland, it will be better if it’s more frequent or have a makeup ferry should it be cancelled or is too full.
2) Room infrastructure
Our room ceiling was leaking during a storm at several areas, causing the floor in front of the bed to be wet and pooling. When we called the concierge, the first staff member who answered the call replied: “Is it disturbing you? You can call back if it continues to disturb you.” without any offer to assist us. Hello if its not disturbing us we didn’t need to call right? The storm got worse after our dinner and it was leaking even worse so we called again but thankfully a different staff member that answered immediately assisted us to change room and called us at the new room to check on us. Because we had to change rooms mid-stay, we saw the second room had a cleaner and better equipped bath and shower (with soap holder, non-slip mat in bathtub, hook for towel in bathroom) that were missing in our initial room, so take note that not all rooms have the same features/be as well maintained.
3) Room cleanliness
Room cleanliness was not the best, bedding have weird smell throughout our stay despite asking to change linen everyday, toilet also constantly smells of urine. Water jug cap have black/brown stains on it, new cups also have grease stains in the water. Noticed that they are not attentive with replacing all the items in the room whenever guests check out, there was a brochure on the table with a bit of dried rice stuck on it…
4) staff not attentive of luggage
During checkout they helped us move our luggage off the boat onto the pier. They didn’t check that our luggage was taken by us because someone else took my luggage and walked away with it. We ran after him to tell him that was our luggage and he just pointed back at the boat and said “they are helping you bring your luggage up”?? Don’t know if he was a staff member or not (not wearing uniform), but the way the staff members let someone walk away with our luggage like that was pretty concerning.
5) Other areas (good and bad)
We appreciate that all the staff can speak English and mostly take initiative to attend to our needs. We were at the bird park during non feeding time and the staff member offered to bring us inside and let us feed the birds.
Great variety of entertainment facilities (pool table, air hockey, bike rental) at the resort with a clean swimming pool and beach. We particularly enjoyed that the resort is integrated with the island’s natural environment and there is quite a bit of wildlife (monkeys, birds, insects including mosquitoes lol, fish in the waters) Quite enjoyable to hike around the island at your own pace but could have better signages to direct around the forested areas.
Food was decent, the rendang was good but the burger kingdom was disappointing. Breakfast service had quite a wide variety of food but it was quite average in taste and quality.
