My husband and I went to Old Key West as an anniversary/second honeymoon. The resort was wonderful. We had a one bedroom villa which was amazing, the space that you get in the villa is a huge value when comparing it to other resorts standard size rooms. The buses were conveniently located so we could just hop on and get to where we needed to go. We had the best ever interaction with Carmen, she is amazing and just the absolute best, she totally understands Disney magic! She shared tips for the parks with us and even gave us a ride on her golf cart to the front area of the resort, which was very appreciated. Both Goods to Go and Olivias were amazing and accommodated allergies amazingly!! During this trip, we scheduled our time so that we had 2 park days in a row and then a day off. Everything went well until our last day, which we took as a day off. We decided to relax in our villa so we put the room occupied sign on our door and called housekeeping to let them know that we would not need services that day but just needed some supplies, which they promptly delivered. Housekeeping was absolutely amazing during our entire stay! That afternoon, I was in the bathroom and my husband was sleeping on the couch in the living room. We had the washer and dryer going, the fan was on in the bathroom, which is fairly loud, and the tv was also on. My husband heard a knock that woke him a bit and thought that it was next door, then another, to which he asked me if I was knocking. We were not expecting anyone as we had advised housekeeping and had the sign on the door. A third knock came and my husband got up to see if it was our door and before he could even get to the door, the staff member let herself in and said she was there to do a room inspection. This has never, in all the years that we have stayed ay any hotel, happened. I had literally just stepped out of using the bathroom. More to the point, if the sign is on the door and no one is answering, there is probably a reason! The entire interaction was just awkward and very unacceptable. We went down to the front desk to speak with a manager, but were dismissed by the girl at the desk with well, they have to check the rooms for guest safety and told us they look for weapons. Then we got the spiel of she went by protocol and it was very apparent we were not getting anywhere. She even told us the next time we were staying in our room to make sure we put the security bar across the door (which we totally do at night!) so the staff cannot get in. We thought the door sign was more than sufficient and it felt like the blame was being shifted back onto us, which just made us even angrier. Whatever protocol is, it should be changed. Bell services and housekeeping know how to use the room phone as both departments called us, so perhaps the room inspection staff should take a lesson and do the same if a room inspection is that imperative, especially when obvious someone is in the room.
