This is our 7th visit to the Princess, 2nd to Esencia. So what keeps us coming back? Read on.... This is the steepest island in the world so you need to be prepared for the bus journey from the airport to the hotel. Not always a pleasant experience for those scared of heights or sufferers of motion sickness. The hotel complex is on multiple levels connected by steps and steep ramps. The Esencia is pretty flat so more suitable for less mobile adults. You have several choices here that make this the perfect place to base yourself whatever kind of holiday you want. Kick back, relax, enjoy the amazingly well kept gardens and pools, plus the excellent and broad choices of food and drink. The animation team don't disturb Esencia guests, so keep your eyes on the activity boards to find out what's on. Or get out and about. Go visit the sea salt pans down at the lighthouse and take a walk around the San Juan Volcano. They are oppositte ends of the route served by the bus that stops at the hotel. Less than 20 minutes either way. Both restaurants there are excellent value and great quality. Go walking or moutain biking, go whale and dolphin watching, go nuts and paragalide off volacanos if that's your thing, The hotel can arrange trips and guides. Rent a car. The roads are seriously twisty as they wind up and down the volcanos, which are unbelieveably steep and up to 2000m high, but there is not that much traffic to contend with and no one drives especially fast. The new road across the lava field of the 2021 eruption makes the journey down to Tazacrote much faster and really spectacular. There, you'll find a nice black beach and some great al fresco restaurants serving top quality food for about €20 per head with wine. You can get a bus if you change in Fuencaliente. The San Juan volcano museum, which is on the way, is worth a visit. It also sits right next to the lava flow from the 2021 eruption. Back to the hotel itself. Be prepared for some incredible sunsets across the atlantic. There really is nothing between you and the Americas. You have too book the Origen restaurant via the app, which is clunky and unreliable (my software would be better ;-) ) but dining outdoors on the terrace as the sun sets is a fantastic experience. Otherwise, go up to the main building help yourself to a glass of Cava, and watch the sun set across the gardens. The rooms in gthe Esencia are bright and clean and well maintained. I would like to single out the maintenance teams for special praise this year. Quite apart from the gounds maintenance and pool areas being immaculate, the speed of respone to problems is world class . We had an issue with the night latch on the door. Fixed in 15 minutes. We locked the safe open. Reset within 10. Hairdryer overheating and cutting out. Replaced immediately. I do, however, have one complaint (ish). The online check-in software is a bit rubbish. I scanned my passport, and manually entered my personal data where it misread the
