I'd never been to a spa resort and had NO IDEA what to expect. We stayed two nights in one of the Cottonwood Rooms. Pretty nice rooms, though slightly dated and probably not what you'd call luxurious. They're comfortable enough, but didn't feel like Wow, We're at a Resort! kinda comfortable. Also, amenities are few and far between (The ice maker in our building, for example, was located in a common room that needs a bit of care -- the ice dumps into a fridge where it seems you're expected to fish it out -- in huge chunks -- by hand. Bleagh.) The setting itself is really beautiful, even on a cold winter day, and seeing the steam come off the gigantic soaking tubs in the main area is actually pretty magical. The tubs were hot, towels were well-stocked, and customers were generally all kind and friendly to each other. The place wasn't terribly crowded during our visit, which was a plus, as it also meant the restaurant on-site was never crowded (we had dinner reservations, but when we arrived, the places was empty enough that they never even asked and just seated us immediately). The dining experience is exceptional--quality all around, great food, served quickly. Very nice. The only factor that takes this review down a notch is staffing. While generally kind and competent, they're inflexible about nearly everything. (Wanna checkout an hour late while a member of your party finishes a massage? Nope. Wanna be charged a fee to do so? Happy to accommodate. Nearly every interaction seemed as if things could be easily resolved if we just handed over the credit card.) We also paid for a private soak--and like others here, experienced the cross-armed foot-tapping from staff, who just seemed generally a bit put out by dealing with everyone. We felt like we were in the way. On the plus side, the person in our party who got the massage said it was definitely worth it, and you won't be disappointed by the general atmosphere and location. The bottom line: Would we go back? Probably. However, for the room rate we paid -- even receiving the NM local discount -- it seemed a *tad* steep for a run of the mill room. Next time, we'd probably just consider a day pass instead, rather than staying on site. And we likely wouldn't do a private soak again.
