Yuzuya Ryokan

Yuzuya Ryokan is absolutely wonderful. The whole place (our room, the courtyard, the breakfast room, the onsen, the lobby) is gorgeous and totally tranquil. Our room was well equipped with toiletries, bottles of water, etc. Do be advised that you will be sleeping on a futon they roll out each evening; we found it to be very comfortable! The best part was definitely the Japanese breakfasts; I'd highly recommend you book at least one during your stay. The food was phenomenal and so beautiful.

We give Yuzuya a 4 star because we had a very resltless night. We didn't know there was an additional panel that went in front of the window, until morning. Light shon in our eyes all night, resulting in us being exhausted the next day. The cypress bathtub was delightful and the food was absolutley exquisite. The front desk staff was a bit cool. Otherwise, all the staff were helpful and sweet and work very hard to make sure you have a great stay. Had the room been dark and we had decent sleep, this would have been a 5 star review. It is a unique experience for sure. Treat yourself to lunch or dinner. You will thoroughly enjoy ! The Yasaka Shrine property next door is lovely to wander through.

It was so nice for us to immerse ourselves in the Japanese Culture by spending one night in the Ryokan with the 2 meal options. The Ryokon is a bit hard to find since there are no signs in English to indicate that it is behind a gate. It is to the right of the Yasaka Shrine. Great location for walking through Gion ( the old part of Kyoto). I will include a picture of the entrance with this post. Once you step inside it's an amazing place. It brings you back to a time when I envision the Japanese people lived like this. We were treated very warmly, and shown to our room where an attendant prepared some tea for us and explained a few things about our stay there. There were hot tubs, one for women and one for men, since bathing suits are not allowed. The water is extremely hot in the hot tub. There is a shower and toiletries there to use. We had our own bathroom with a tub and shower. We had our own toilet which was in a separate room. There were lots of toiletry items in the bathroom, including toothbrush/toothpaste, hair brush, etc. The rooms are a very nice size, they are converted to the sleeping quarters when we are at dinner. We slept on futons on the floor, but it was more comfortable than many beds we slept in. The pillows and comforter were fluffy, there was a nightlight and even a TV. There's a fridge in the room with carbonated water and still water. I will include some room pictures with this post. We dressed in the robes that we were given and headed to the dining room for our dinner. The dinner was plentiful, lots of small dishes, but we were full by the end. It did take 2hrs from start to finish. You do need to be an adventurous eater to enjoy some of the selections. If you let them know ahead of time they will accommodate certain diets. I do not eat anything raw, so I was given a few different things that were all cooked. Breakfast was equally extensive, with lots of small portions, but enough to fill us up. We had a very relaxing stay at this Ryokon.
