Nika Island Resort & Spa, Maldives

A fantastic vacation in a great resort! The staff is just fabulous and you automatically feel like family. The house reef is just great and the private beaches are just perfect. The food is delicious! We are already planning our next visit! If you are looking for a cozy an quiet place, this is the place to go.

We were writing this email squeezed between the seats in a plane of a low-coast air company on the overnight flight with all my family getting back home after 10 days which supposed to be a great 5-star family vacation. A great example of a terrible ending which killed the whole experience. Me and my wife with five kids (15, 13, 8, 6 and 3 years old) have decided to spend a great vacation together in the best available room on a beautiful Maldivian resort – so we booked a Sultan Suite on a Nika Island Resort and Spa. It was our second time with Nika during the last 6 months – first time we stayed with three kids in November 2024 and everything was fine so we decided to return. It’s hard to travel with a number of small kids using connecting flights - so we booked direct ones to Male – a returning and also a flexible ones, just in case something happens and we’ll need to change the flights. The air tickets were around good 40% of the overall cost – to ensure the maximum comfort level. Planned smart but didn’t help in the end. We arrived as planned and spent a great 10 days – everything was good. But then the last day just killed the impression of the whole vacation: • We received a farewell departure message which said that the flight to Male is scheduled for 13:40 local Nika time (11:40 Male time). Our flight home was at 14:10 Male time so we suggested this could be a great balance to make it to the flight without overspending time at the airport. • We’ve paid the bill at 12:30 Nika time and were waiting for the flight – on the pier accompanied with a guard there. • At 13:40 the plane hasn’t appeared so we’ve started to bother – but no one has arrived to the pier with any updates. Not even proposing a water for the kids – nothing. • At 14:00 I myself (still no initiative from the personnel) went back from the pier to the reception and asked whether the plane is arriving and if we’re still making that to check in for our home flight – the answer was that everything is under control, no need to worry about. • 14:45 - the personnel finally have come to the pier - when the plane was landing – obviously to meet and greet the arriving tourists. No comments on what shall we do with our flight home. Definitely we would be looking for more attention and thoughts when it was pretty obvious that we’re missing our flight. • The local flight took off at 14:55 Nika time. At that time, it was still possible to reschedule our flight home for the next day without any extra costs – if someone told us that we’re not making that for the check in. But no one did. • The crew on the flight from Nika to Male was perfect – they’ve made it very fast even under heavy wind and rain (that’s why it is pretty obvious that so called “bad weather conditions” was not the reason for delay). By the way during the last two days of our stay the weather was even worse in terms of wind and rain and the planes were arriving without any complications. • Finally, we arrive

My sister and I recently stayed a week at Nika island. What a magical, wonderful stay we had. This is the first time just the 2 of us have been together on holiday catching up on new memories and remembering our childhood in Kenya. My sister Sue organized everything and it couldn’t have been better. This was my first visit to the Maldives and my sister’s fifth. All the staff were exceptional. The head chefs would explain the meals and advise my sister in all the meals of her choices due to her seafood allergy. The Lotus Spa delivered world class treatments. I now work as an Ayurvedic therapist and loved the treatment rooms and therapists. Everyone was so professional,kind , welcoming and friendly. I am also PADI dive Instructor (not active) and hadn’t dived for 6 years. I have worked and dived in the Red Sea, Papua Nuigini, Thailand and the UK and somehow never experienced seeing Mantas or Whale Sharks. August isn’t the season for Diving with these but you can snorkel with Mantas and we did! Life recently has thrown some hard situations for my sister and myself and having somewhere to reconnect and be immersed in nature, the sea and a location that is respectful of both was important for us. Nika island provided just this. Especially the 2 instructors and teams on the dive boat and excursions. Shatthu and Fathu are professional and incredibly knowledgeable and a credit to PADI and Nika Island. We truly did feel like we belonged to a family here. I loved all my dives and can highly recommend anyone wishing to learn from beginner to more experienced diving. Fathu did my refresh/orientation dive and was fabulous. Shatthu is the Dive Centre manager and instructor and made a dream come true by organizing a private trip to Hanufaru Bay to see the Mantas. Shattu is relaxed and experienced and you feel at total ease with their diving trips. If I was to change anything, I would have done the Nitrox course. There are Manta snorkeling trips too close to Nika. My sister and I cannot thank Shattu enough for organizing an incredible trip and making us feel so welcome. We would also like to thank the General Manager Shameed Mohamed for making our private trip possible and for the magic that is created at Nika Island Resort and Spa. This is a very special place.

We spent 7 amazing nights on this island for our honeymoon two years ago. I only have good words because we had such a great time. The island is very quiet, you can dive and snorkel, there was a Spa, a restaurant and 2 bars. We loved the aperitivo, the food, the themed nights and the people who worked there were very nice. We booked the overwater bungalow and we couldn’t recommend it more, very private with a little glass floor and a solarium at the top. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking to relax and have an unforgettable honeymoon.

Just got back from Nika Island . Was a beautiful place,very quiet not much going on , accommodation was great very private, Staff were very nice , only issue was food? Not the greatest a bit disappointing as this is one thing you look forward to on holidays, ️️️☀️

It is a real shame we flew all the way from London to this paradise island and when going to sleep, we realised our villa was positioned next to one of the island's generators that they turned on during the night, all night until 7.30am which is when it stopped. We went to bed the first night and the noise woke me up. I went to the bathroom and noticed the windows of the bathroom were vibrating. I filmed this. It was shocking. I could not sleep all night. The next day I reported this to Mahmoud, the resident Manager. He was very friendly. He explained the island was full and mentioned "it was probably the wind" what woke me up. I was so concerned we were going to have another sleepless night and unfortunately I was right. Second night, the noise woke me up again. I left the villa and walked to where the noise came from. I saw the generator making the super loud noise. I then walked to front desk ( it was 4.30am, how can I forget? ) There was noone there. I messaged Mahmoud, no reply. It was middle of the night after all. Day 3, I went to front desk and met with Mahmoud and other front desk staff. I was very upset. They then moved me to the same room category but away from the generator noise. I lost 2 nights of sleep. I claimed compensation. I was told the noise was minimal so that was it. I enjoyed 5 of my 7 nights in Maldives. Yes, lovely island, spacious villa, good food (mainly Italian), amazing snorkeling but I feel very dissapointed by the way they did not want to take ANY responsibility for what happened to us and offer any refund. Yes, they surprised my partner with a birthday cake during dinner and put flower arrangements in the room but, do you think that compensate 2 nights of heavy noise, then they claimed the generator noise wasn't that loud and it was probably the wind? That says a lot about the management team. They put me off of going back to Maldives to be honest. If you visit, don't forget to bring your earplugs with you.
