Baghvan, Pench National Park

The check in was the smoothest we ever had. Right from the moment you enter the resort, you are made to feel at home. Every staff member is very well groomed. The 12 cottages were spread out and well planned. all had machans which had a king bed with mosquito nets. they had good view of the stream which was flowing by giving a good chance for animal sighting. The beds in the bungalows were very comfortable with soft pillows. the air conditioning and heating were good. The dining area had a fantastic view of the stream flowing from the core area of the jungle. lot of animals and colourful birds could be sighted while eating. The food was very tasty and fresh, due credit to Chef Kaniah lal and Sanjay. Yuvraj and Shyam provided excellent service in the restaurant, always serving with a smile. The Taj safari vehicle was very comfortable. The naturalists Eric and Pavan were very good. A special word of praise for Eric who was very careful during the safari drive. His knowledge about the birds and animal behavior was extraordinary. A word of praise for Ajay and Kushvender in the front office for making our stay very comfortable. They had a solution for every problem. Om in housekeeping was very efficient.

Four school friends were in a mood for some adventure as also relaxation away from our busy daily lives....so so happy that we zeroed in on Taj Baghvan at Pench National Park!! What a time we had...absolutely smashing! We all know about Taj hospitality but this truly seemed on another level! First off we had the Lodge Manager Mr. Bheru Singh Bhati who personally looks into the comfort and requirements of all his guests with his trademark charm and concern, ensuring we felt absolutely at home. Shyam, the person designated to look after us ensured we had everything we needed at a moment's notice. Kanhaiya, the head Chef not just fed us the most delicious meals (many local dishes with locally sourced ingredients - the zundka deserves a special mention!) but regaled us with many entertaining stories. He and Shyam both had an amazing sense of humor. Also need to mention Taj's Naturalist Pavan whose commitment to ensuring a Tiger sighting for us and his immense knowledge of flora and fauna made for an extremely interesting safari for all of us. The rooms were spacious with sit out verandahs and also a personal Machan on top! perfect for a morning tea/coffee or sundowner. I can't recommend this place enough to all those that want to feel close to nature, enjoy wildlife and want to experience all of this while being utterly and totally pampered! We had an unforgettable experience at Taj Baghvan in Pench. While we have stayed at many Taj properties, this one stood out for the warmth and hospitality of its staff. Indeed, I’ve never been to any hotel anywhere in the world where the staff was so helpful and attentive to our needs. The hotel itself is tastefully decorated, and barely 5 minutes away from the Turia gate. I was traveling with my wife, daughter and very elderly parents and deeply appreciated the careful attention the staff paid to their needs. Chef Kanhaiya not only cooked all kinds of delicacies for us but also helped my parents settle into their room and regaled us with his stories. Karanveer served us our meals and seemed to magically know what we wanted before we even asked. Laxman was always there to greet us in the morning with a warm smile, a hot beverage and cookies. Vishnukant would patiently help my dad (who is over 80) walk to his room. It is no exaggeration to say that all staff members including camp host Khushwinder really treated us like family and made us feel at home every minute we were there. Kudos also to Santosh, our expert guide and naturalist. He is very knowledgeable about the wildlife in the area including the trees and birds. Santosh is terrific at spotting and is able to recognize numerous bird songs. We did not see any tigers on this visit, but I am not one bit disappointed because we saw almost 40 species of birds.

1. We (me & my wife) visited Panch National Park (Pench NP) between 8th to 10th Nov 2024 (for 2N / 3D). And stayed at Baghvan by Taj Safaris. 2. Baghvan is located about 90 kms from the Nagpur airport. It takes about 2 hours to reach the resort form Nagpur Airport. 3. Turiya Gate of Pench NP (Madhya Pradesh) is located about 1 km from Baghvan. Khawasa Gate (buffer area of Pench NP – Madhya Pradesh is located about 10 kms from the resort. Teliya gate (another entry gate for buffer area which is common to Khawasa gate) is located about 9 kms from the resort. The Maharashtra side of Pench NP namely Khursapar gate (15 kms from resort) and Sillari ggate (45 kms from the resort) are other places for safari in the forest. 4. The resort is located adjacent to core area of the forest. The forest inside the resort is home to over 20 varieties of butterflies (Sep to Nov) and has some interesting birds like Jungle Owlet. Racket Tailed Drongo, Orange Headed Thrush etc. The resort is fenced but there have been odd cases of Tiger jumping over the fence during the night. The employees have many interesting tales to tell. 5. There are 12 rooms (colonial bungalows) in the resort. In fact the resort is divided into zones (room numbers 1 to 6 on one side of the Lobby / Restaurant. And room numbers 7 to 12 on the other side of the lobby / restaurant). The restaurant / souvenir shop / lounge / spa are located in the middle. 6. ROOMS: The rooms are provided with a queen size double bed. A study table and a chair are available. The room also has a cozy place to sit and have a cup of tea. The balcony door opens into a sit out area and one can see the jungle. Spotted Deer or Sambar Deer can be seen from the room itself. Butterflies and Giant Wood Spider could be seen from the sit out area. The bed room opens into a verandah to access the luggage storage area and wash rooms. The luggage area also has locker for keeping your valuables. This verandah also houses an open air shower. 7. SIT OUT / MACHAN: Another sit out (read Machan) can be accessed by climbing about 15 steps on a old wooden staircase. A small bed with pillow are provided so that one can relax amidst the greenery of the forest surrounding the bungalows. One can really enjoy at the sit out area early in the morning when it is cool (during the summer). And during the winter you can sun bathe in the sit out area. Go ahead and enjoy your coffee / tea. Relax on the cot with a book in your hands. 8. RESTAURANT: Taj Safaris ask the customers in advance about their dietary preferences if any. And Chef Kanhaiyalal and the F & B team interact with each customer at the time of check in (and also during every meal) and make sure that the customer is well taken care of. My wife is a pure vegetarian and cannot stand the smell of garlic. They went out of the way to ensure that her requirements are met in total. 9. One dinner was arranged by the poolside.
