I recently had the privilege of staying at the Bhavana Bodhigun Vocational College (BBVC) in Koh Samui, and it was truly an inspiring experience. Having a corporate background, I’ve stayed in many different places, but BBVC is so much more than just a place to rest—it’s a purpose-driven movement.
This vocational college doubles as a hostel, with all proceeds reinvested to provide free education, meals, & accommodation to underprivileged Thai youth. Their mission to cultivate the next generation of Thai-talent really resonated with me, and it was deeply rewarding to know that my stay directly supported such a meaningful initiative.
The atmosphere at BBVC is serene, deeply rooted in Buddhist principles. The morning and evening meditation sessions create a grounding energy, and the staff—students in training—are as warm as they are professional. The rooms are simple but comfortable, offering a homestead or farmstay vibe.
I also took part in the evening meditation sessions, which helped center myself and embrace mindfulness.
Staying at BBVC isn’t just about enjoying Koh Samui—it’s about having a positive impact while stepping away from the busier parts of the island. If you’re looking for a unique experience that blends relaxation with purpose, I highly recommend it to anyone who values meaningful travel!
(Quick tip: I got lost in the jungle, so make sure to enter the full name of the school on Google Maps—it will take you to the correct location, not the one up the mountain along a dirt track.)
